Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

When is the last day of testing again? And when will we hear back if we are referred or not? 2 months or so?

No one is for certain about either of those things. I thought last test day was Nov. 17th, someone else said Nov 30th is the last day, so i'm assuming end of the month at the earliest for testing.

As far as hearing back, everyone is on the same page as "dont expect anything until next year." People said though that the earliest on last years bid, which has about the same time frame as us, was December 27th, or something around there.

It took around a month last year for Referred status and then another two months after that for TOLs to start rolling out.

Get ready to hurry up and wait for the next year or so if you move on.

BTW I called the HR people listed in the post (aviation careers people). They said vets pref don't go towards the ATSA, I'm hopeing that guy was just confused or something and didn't know what he was talking about but thats what he told me.

So what exactly is the rule with using pen and paper? I know this was a discussion a few weeks ago. I took the ATSA yesterday for the first time. I wasn't given any for part one. For part two, one of the sections said pen and paper was a required material. I asked the test proctor about it and she said it was a typo and I was not allowed to use any.

You should be thanking the proctor(s), cause even if you were given pen and paper how would you even use it? Would you sit there and map out each question and only answer about 4 of them. Not to be that guy but the people constantly asking about pen and paper ion think they made for this. The job is about quick and precise decision making, superior reflexes and reasoning, and able to quickly identify the a problem and come to a quick correct solution, not sit there and play chess.

Even if I was given the opportunity to use a pen and paper, there wasn't enough time to use it. I was just wondering what the rules are with using it since several people have been asking about it. Just because I'm curious doesn't mean I'm not capable of doing the job.

Wasnt generally directed towards you, but too the people who've made a fuss and the ones who will come with the same question later. No such thing as a dumb question unless that question has been asked several times before

I had to read a 3ish page sheet from the FAA before I started the test and it had a big point of saying "at no time during the test are pen/pencil and paper allowed"

The second section does technically say get to use it, but I assumed that the company who made the test isn't on the same page as the FAA. I didn't even ask, just went ahead with the section. Finished with maybe a minute left to spare.

This question has probably been repeated but..to anyone who already took the test: During the test, which sections did you get to practice before moving on to the actual one?

I'm pretty sure it was all of them. Although the biographical questions maybe just had one example and no practice, but there's no need to practice that.

Essentially every section, although it's not so much practice as it is just instructions on how the section works. It'll give you a few example questions but even if you repeat them you just get the same questions again so you can't really get a lot of practice out of them.

Just finished my test.

Only one other person was taking atsa, rest were taking whatever else. Another person was supposed to take it but they were a noshow.

Man the collisions thing just sorta boned me.
Memory and spatial stuff were fine but I should've slowed down a bit since I made some dumb mistakes. I wasnt totally used to the number pad since I mainly use a small laptop with no numpad...probably shouldve practiced more

No idea how I did on logic and the passage reading (but the passages were a lot easier than I was anticipating).

The personality test was just...weird for me. At some point I had several boxes where I was basically forced to contradict myself no matter which choice I picked.

That a,b,c math section was shitty but the rest were okay. During the collision + math section I prioritized the collisions and if I didn’t get the math I guessed.

This couldn’t have summed up my experience more accurately. The personality test was by far the most frustrating part. Long, confusing, and mind numbing. At the least the rest of it holds your attention and is “fun” in a way....
