We don’t use Webschedule here (we use our own program). I am just wondering if it is being coded correctly in Cru Art.On webschedule all sick leave is showing as furlough. If you request sick it is being changed to furlough. Dont know about cru art
It’s not a lack of professionalism. It’s people not wanting their livelihoods used in a game of political chess especially given that 75% of the government IS funded. Do you blame people on pre approved leave for not coming back to work? They seem like freeloaders as well... People calling out sick won’t affect anything here. We can only work so many hours and so many planes. The number of people at work don’t change those two things. TOP might go up, but who cares. Politicians need to get their crap together and not use us as pawns.Sick leave requests across the country are up 250% since the shut down began... That shows you the professionalism many of our co-workers possess. I know it won't happen but I hope they get charged their leave or get LWOP. All of us that are actually going to work every day are being forced to work short staffed to make up for those who "are sick".

Thanks for the advice, I went to the doctor to get a diagnosis and some much needed meds. There was an Agency Telcon Today and the hottest topic was the “Furlough Flu”. A number of facilities have started the day with 50% staffing and have been plagued with a lot of sick leave usage.
The Agency is trying to find ways to track and punish people using a lot of SL/furlough allegedly. FAA Legal is currently working on CBA end-around to allow them to do it. The Agency contends that the provisions of Article 25 don’t apply because you’re using furlough and not sick leave.
I think the whole thing is far fetched and will be interpreted in so many ways across the facilities nationwide so I am guessing that is what you are experiencing since it is a hot topic. Not saying that people should not call in if they need to but if you are banging out make sure you have a way to prove it if push comes to shove. Of note you can not be in a leave status during a government shutdown so they can’t technically charge you any leave as it will automatically be classified as furlough. They may be “charging leave” and tracking it to try and combat people calling out so much with the threat of having to be able to repay those furlough days with the leave you took once the government comes back into session but I don’t think your balences should be affected (who know with this climate though). Other than that I don’t have much of a reccomendation. Stay smart, protect yourself and ride the wave ?
Then that’s a safety risk that you and our union representatives (local, regional, and national) have to stand up for and stop. Go ATC Zero, stop taking handoffs, reduce the rate, etc. DON’T compromise safety to keep up efficiency!I agree with most of this but it absolutely does affect things other than TOP. There's a lot of facilities that have so many people calling in that they are forced to combine positions that have controllers working too many planes and too much airspace.
Then, the agency should be using overtime to try and replace the people who are incapacitated for duty. The agency sure as hell isnt going to put me in a position to compromise safety by working too many aircraft or too much airspace safely. No damn wayIt is a lack of professionalism. Thinking that you banging out sick is some statement that anyone will listen to is no different than some cheap politician trying to make some bogus statement to begin with especially when you local rep and/or manager don’t listen to you. No one expects pre approved leave people to return because that’s already built in, accounted for, and scheduled. People calling out sick at a higher than normal rate is the problem. Closing sectors or positions is the problem. Our profession alone isn’t being used as pawns so thinking any statement you make by banging out is foolish at best.
Nobody answers the overtime calls at my facility... They've been calling all week. Then, the agency should be using overtime to try and replace the people who are incapacitated for duty. Then the traffic demand needs to come down to continue to provide a safe operation. No one should be put in a position that puts aircraft in an unsafe situation.Nobody answers the overtime calls at my facility... They've been calling all week.
If you're sick don't go into work.I’m ACTUALLY sick and scared of discipline when I get back becasue of this. I worked sick one day but feeling bad enough today to not go in. Tomorrow is iffy and I’ll see how I feel. It’s just a bad cold so not really anything to go to a Dr. for. Feel like I’m going to be punished for the people at my facility who are known “furlough flu” people. Advice?
Go to a Minute Clinic and get a note for being sick. If not, be prepared to potentially write a detailed account of the events that prevented you from attending work.I’m ACTUALLY sick and scared of discipline when I get back becasue of this. Don’t even need to do that if you’re a blue cross blue shield member. There’s an app Teladoc where you can talk to a dr via video chat, or just over the regular phone. 15$ co payGo to a Minute Clinic and get a note for being sick.
