Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Anyone know typically how long you stay in AG pay? Also I've read something about locality pay, as well as min/max pay per hour for each pay scale. Also does premium pay refer to OT?

Look at the facility info page on this site for average training times (though I've heard that those can be quite outdated/disconnected from reality). Premium pay includes stuff like Sunday pay, night differential, Controller-in-Charge, OJT instructor. I think I saw someone once say that added all together you can expect those to add another 10-20% to your total yearly pay, obviously highly variable.

Thanks for the honest answer and not being a dick. Fully expected the "look in the FAQs idiot" answer. Not everything is in there!

Generally with an ARTCC (like the one listed here) you’ll stay at AG anywhere from 6 months to a year from the time you join the facility. It all depends on training backlog and staffing, whether or not they have the resources available to train, etc. D1 is generally after you get 2 D-side certifications and D2 is typically after all your D-sides. D3 is 2 R-sides usually and CPC is pretty self explanatory.

Everything he said is in the FAQ. ?

So not to jump the gun, but are there any recommendations on things that we can study before the academy that would help going in?

Not worth it. You’ll be taught everything you need to know and have plenty of time to learn it. But if you really wanna do something despite that advice, buy the Basics study guide on this website and go through it - it’s accurate almost to the day of the material you’ll get in basics. But that course is already very easy, so it’s really not worth your time unless you have nothing better to do.

Thank you both for the input! I’m a bit behind the rest of the herd with this bid (just got my medical exam scheduled for 2 weeks out) so was just wondering if there’s anything proactive I could be doing in the meantime.

To reinforce what was said, you get WAY more than enough time to learn everything. If you’re adamant about studying a few hours a day and will be diligent about it, you’ll have no issues learning the material, phraseology, etc. it will all come down to the last 2 days of evals.
