Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Do they not tell you whether you're enjoying route or tower on the TOL anymore?

If I had to guess it's probably easier to fill last minute classes faster. Believe or not some people go through the long hiring process get an FOL and then just don't show up to the Academy.

Ok

Oh I've been patient since 7/27/18 lol

In all seriousness, I'm only posting this here because I know people are concerned about when they completed their paperwork, and the timing on the few FOLs that have come out.
We’ve all been patient since then! That’s also my MO, now that I’ve completed everything. Both these fuckin guys got FOL’s A few days after they completed everything, lucky sob’s!

Yeah lucky is right! From what I've seen from other bids, they're one of, if not the fastest clearances I've seen

I emailed my HR POC and the general medical email about a week ago. No reply. Today, I called my HR POC and was informed that only my drug test was cleared. I called my Security POC to see if she had any updates on my SF-86. She stated that a LOI was needed. I think it’s important to reach out because who knows when I would have received a LOI if I didn’t follow up.

My HR POC stated that my medical and MMPI go hand in hand, my medical will not be reviewed without the MMPI results. I know some stated that their medical was cleared but they were still waiting on word on their MMPI. Maybe it’s done differently per region.

You mean as in, hey this guy is gonna be terminal because that's the next class we need filled?

That’s interesting. My HR POC told me a couple weeks ago that the FS has all my medical info and was reviewing it but that they were still waiting on my MMPI results. Which hopefully they have now since it was before that 2/21 wave

What do you think? Would it be ok to still be employed, but not working, by an airline while in the academy? I don't plan of failing the academy, but if that happens I don't want to lose my 9 years of seniority and pay at my previous job.

So if you're an atc you can't be employed by any airline or aviation school or anything like that because it presents a conflict of interest. It's the same reason atc's don't get free flights because airlines could use that as bribery for control preference or something. This was all explained to me by a current CPC. Idk if that includes the time you're at the academy, because you're not technically a graduate yet but you are being paid by the FAA.

So how did y'all hear about this job?
My story's little dramatic lmao. I was a history major (one of the many majors I bounced around to) and I had a complete meltdown one day about never making any money what am I gonna do with a history degree blah blah blah so I started looking at enlisting and I've always loved airplanes so the first one I looked into was the Air Force and as I was researching it I came across military atc and thought it was so cool and from there I looked at civilian atc and the CTI track for that so I dropped my history classes that day and enrolled at my CTI school for the following semester (it's a community college so it was easy) and never regretted that decision for a second. It took a full meltdown for me to find my dream job ?

I can't decide whether to drive or fly there.

If I fly then I can use the shuttle service while I'm there but have no car to join possible study groups
If I drive it takes like 4 days to get there

If you can, fly out and rent a car. I know that rental bill will stack up over the 3-4 months you'll be there but that's my plan anyway lol. Still gonna take the shuttle to class but use the car for the gym and grocery shopping and just general freedom

So how did y'all hear about this job?
I'm currently in the automotive industry and one of my customers a few years back was a retired controller. It was a slow day so we talked for a while about it, he worked at St. Louis airport when it was the TWA hub, said its an amazing job and highly recommended that I try and get into if it possible. Cut to a few years later, I think i'm ready to get out of the automotive industry and he comes back in, casual conversation turns to telling me about this bid he heard about through a few old co workers he was still friends with, tells me to apply. So here I am, waiting. Patiently. For a ToL...
