Hiring Bid Experienced Bid: FAA-ATO-19-ATCEXP-60073

The age old debate. I would genuinely be curious to see how the FAA ranks facilities. Which, I imagine, is about as secretive as how they decide who gets what facility when a guy who has a CTO from a helicopter airport gets level 8s and a guy working at my facility gets 5/6s. I would also love to hold an actual conversation with someone who works at a busy level 10-12 tower just to get some insight so if there’s anyone out there, slide in my DMs ?

It's not a secret at all the formula they use for FAA facilities is in the back of the slate book. And the formula they use for prior experience is in some SOP somewhere. But it all comes down to what facilities need bodies when you get hired on. I don't know anything about HWO but if I had to guess what FAA facilities are similar to yours you'd be looking at SFB 8 to a 9, GFK 9, DVT 8. That's based on similar traffic type not count. It does suck because there's no doubt you work more traffic than alot of FAA facilities.

I found an old formula from a while back regarding prior exp hiring but the process was completely different than it is now. But yeah, I’m completely accepting of the “needs of the FAA” but had I have known there’s no rhyme or reason to who gets what, I would have stayed at a cushy 70 op a day tower ? the main difference I can tell between DVT and GFK (obviously aside from being FAA) is staffing. We have 4-6 total bodies at any given time, not at work, but assigned to the facility total, unable to split local so just consistently beating your head against a wall lol whereas those facilities have anywhere between 15 and 20 controllers.

Got an email yesterday from medical requesting more paperwork and a doctors visit since I’m receiving disability. Before that I was waiting on flight surgeon. Hopefully you guys have a better luck.

Already went through that. Had my appointment and sent the information back a month ago. Got told two days ago I’m waiting on FS approval.

Interesting.. When was your physical for medical? I also receive disability and I'm curious if I'll have to do the same or not.

I had my physical done April 1st. Had some ear surgeries in the past but the VA is not giving me any disability for it but I guess they still want another test done.

Anyone who has a start date of August 4th still waiting on an FOL? I reached out to my rep but did not receive the most pleasant response. Very difficult to try and get housing set up with no proof of salary or anything.

I start August 4th and got my FOL yesterday. I will be going to Hawaii, maybe thats why they sent mine early since it is overseas.

Anyone else been cleared for a bit(2 mo.) and still waiting for a list? Seems like everyone else waiting on a list is held up by FS.
