Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-19-ALLSRCE-61676

Wow, they are 2 weeks early on releasing referrals. Got referred last 2 years, not referred this year, even though I felt that I did much better. Must be a new algorithm.

See you boys/gals at the next bids thread!

Congrats to those that got referred!

Nope, just gotta wait til next year and not be too old by then, either that or get yourself into pool 1 for a better chance.

I remember some questions about Instrument ratings/commercial if you actually fly as well from the application on usajobs. Does having those also give any preference to you as an applicant? I'm wondering as I'm a student pilot. I could always push to have those ratings by the next window. Unfortunately, joining the military isn't really an option for me at this juncture to get preference, and I already have a bachelor's, so going CTI would be silly.

Finish your ratings!

I'm an instrument rated pilot (going for commercial checkride in a few weeks). This is my 3rd time applying. First time, didn't pass the BQ. Second time I was best qualified, referred, and no TOL. This year I'm best qualified and referred. Expanding your flight knowledge and experience will definitely give you a better understanding of the job. Especially after your instrument training. The hiring process for ATC is not quick. You will have time to knock out a couple of ratings. My recommendation is become a CFI and instruct while you wait on the FAA. You will get both flight hours and gain experience. I regret not finishing my commerical and CFI ratings sooner.

If you were referred that means you're getting a TOL.

I'm in pool 2, scored best qualified and referred for this bid. I wonder if they're hiring with a different process this year because it seems like (so far) way more people were not referred this year than last year, even having scored in the BQ band. Either way, good luck to everyone!

Referred Pool 2, Best Qualified. Was referred last year but was one of the 700+ who didn't get a TOL due to low Pool 1 numbers. I turned 31 two weeks after this bid closed, so this is my last shot. I haven't had this much anxiety checking a website since I checked my University of Georgia admission status in 2007.

Cheers to those who are referred, and I'll pour one out for those who were BQ and weren't. Now, it's time to hurry up and wait again. Hopefully they get those TOLs out before the imminent gov't shutdown.

They must put a high percentage of the score in the second part of the exam because I took the first part twice in less than a week and I know I aced the shit out of it the second time and was not referred. Or pool 2 got dicked by pool 1.

Pool 2 - Referred - Best qualified
The only thing I know for sure is that this is wildly different from last year. Trying not to get too excited with so many variables and so little information. Good luck, everybody.

Referred last year but didn't get a TOL. This year I'm in Pool 2 referred and best qualified. I didn't study for the ATSA at all this year and I thought I performed almost as bad as I did last year, only slightly better.
I just got a job as an aircraft dispatcher and I'm loving it so far. I don't know if I'm going to continue on with ATC even if I get a TOL. Tough decision..

Pool 2 Best Qualified Referred. So much information out there and I can't figure out which ones to follow. Anyone have a general ballpark estimate for the next news? 60 days? 90 days? Anything helps!

What is so different about this year? Just the timeline?

The timeline, the information they give, and the number of referrals. Granted, you could find out your qualification level if you called last year, but they were really quick to nix some good scores this year.
It’s tempting to feel safer with a referral this year than last year, but we don’t really have any explanation yet. Maybe they just got too many phone calls last year from folks they knew wouldn’t make it.

Pool 1- "qualified" but referred does this mean I'm not going to get in or do I still have a chance. I do know about the best qualified and the well qualified

“Referred” is a chance. The way I understand it, candidates have to come from both Pool 1 and Pool 2 within a certain tolerance of each other. Could be that Pool 1 has fewer applicants overall, and so a wider range of scores get through.

Qualified but not referred. Keeping my head up for next bid. Good luck to all who are possibly going to the academy and better luck next time to the rest of us.
Just curious, what pool were you in? No reports from “Not Referred, Pool 1, Qualified” folks yet.
