All this talk of eTraining and none of my Stage 3 classmates or I have heard a peep from Management since being sent home. My Z must be behind the ball, because friends at other Zs are starting this week.

Yeah I'm sure the agency which hasn't even acknowledged our existence for 3 months came on .65 and made a judgement call on the training initiative based off this thread 🙄

I hope for the sake of the people in class this actually counts and they can go straight into lab. Not straight into a refresher which is the whole classroom portion again.

I believe it has more to do with the budget than covid-19. The agency isn't making as much money with this level of traffic, so by not training and running 5/10 - 5/5 schedule:

1. No OT pay
2. No OJT pay
3. No Hazard pay (I believe the 5/10 - 5/5 schedule is the alternative to this)
4. No differential pay for trainees, fewer CPC receive it per day
5. No holiday pay for trainees, fewer CPC receive if for that day
6. No one certifies, so no pay raises
7. Don't have to pay contractors

The alternative to this is ROF, furloughs, etc... because there's no justification as to why we're running normal schedules for a full staff while the agency is going into a huge deficit. The agency might have a higher budget next fiscal year to compensate, that's probably when we'll return to normal working schedules.

Everyone at my facility got paid for their in-lieu of for Memorial Day.

Yeah, it really is. We are distancing ourselves as much as possible at work but you guys just want to come in and work. Well, I think at this point, they should recall all of you, send you to a classroom, and you guys can just sit there all day long.

What the hell are you talking about. Nobody is distancing themselves. I see a shitload of people grouping up and walking around the grounds together. I’m one of only like 4 people that wear a mask and try and distance myself.

Well, I don’t see that. Hey, if you want someone to breathe on you so they can tell you about a pair of reds that you’re going to have in 20 minutes then go for it but take them with you when you go on break.

I don’t want that. Like I said I wear my mask at work and don’t need a D side, but there are ways to work some training in, especially for R sides. No reason an R side trainer can’t monitor from a different sector and be properly distanced

They cared enough to shut it down last year over the budget. The FAA cannot spend beyond what they're approved to spend by Congress, that's why I said next fiscal year.

“They” (Congress) were in a gridlock due to bipartisan political pandering. There’s no chance they would approve trillions of dollars of stimulus and simultaneously reduce government agency budgets. That makes no sense

To be fair, that's what trainees (not certified) at Z's did before covid anyway.
I don't think anyone will mind sitting on zoom for 4 hours a day if it is getting some progress on them getting certified.

Yah. As long as it counts it’s great. Better than sitting in the Z classroom for 8 hours. Just gotta figure out your viewing angle and where you can put your beverage off frame

No. This is not a correct way to train and maintain proper situational awareness or monitor a trainee. It is specifically taught to NOT train this way.

A lot of things are "specifically taught"... for one, there's a staffing MOU facilities are supposed to follow. That's been out the window for three months. Brave new world. If the trainer has the right frequencies pulled up and the override works as normal, sounds decent enough to me.

Unless you're wearing a real N95 mask (and know how to put it on properly) masks don't protect you. They protect everyone around you, if you happen to have it and aren't showing symptoms. I was hearing about how Japan or Korea or one of those countries did basically nothing to lock down and they have a tiny fraction of our cases per capita because mask-wearing is so ingrained in their culture. Basically, everyone wear a mask please.
