I’m not saying everything should be free or unproductive. But there is a class of people whose work is undervalued, and for me it’s that simple. Everyone is worth more than $7 and change. And if they aren’t than this experiment is a failure and needs an overhaul that I’m too drunk and undereducated to explore.

100% under valued or untapped. For years as a DoD employee group we’d do breakfast from McDonald’s once a week when on the month of day shifts. I didn’t go to the McDonald’s near my house or the one after that. Food was always got at the one next to the AF base and it was always hot and as fresh as i could ask for. Those workers killed it compared to other McDonald’s in the way. This wasn’t a secret but I’m sure the employees weren’t compensated by Yelp or customer revenues

Ya, you'd still have a portion of the workforce to do those low skilled jobs. Teenagers. College kids already on scholarships and shit. Retirees looking for something to kill the time. People with developmental problems.

And of course you'd still have people who choose to live thay way despite the help offered.

Equality of existence and opportunity doesn't mean equality of outcomes, and any system that tries to enforce that logic is bound to fail, but ya we should and can be doing a lot better than we are now.

This reply makes literally 0 sense. Also, it isn't the governments job to fix prices. Wages are the price of labor, and having a minimum wage at all distorts markets and puts an artificial floor below the market that actually prices people out of work and the ability to gain new skills.

It’s simple supply and demand. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb by saying Almost Every single person in the workforce can throw boxes at Walmart or be a fry cook at McDonalds. Because of that Walmart and McDonald’s can pay those people less. More skills = More Pay and vice versa.

No the government literally can set prices, which they do, and why there is minimum wage, it is their job to look after their people. Unless your saying that the minimum wage should be zero dollars because the government shouldn't decide that?

Well where does it end then? If the fry cook at McDonalds with zero skills gets paid $15 an hour everyone else’s pay should go up accordingly. You and I both know that won’t happen. It’s a pipe dream.

That's a big reason why we need to start working on fixes for the problems posed by AI/capitalism now in my opinion, because, ya shit ain't gonna get better on that front.

Those fixes involve a social safety net and making sure everyone has enough before we make sure the super rich have more.
