Training hold

My training manager sent out the recall/training restart plan the other day. It’s pretty frustrating when it becomes clear the “plan” is to drag things out and move people forward as slowly as possible.

Every trainee currently on EA will be forced to complete at least 6-8 weeks of “review” problems in the lab. This is not article 67 warm up time, but forced additional training. People who already completed their lab requirements are included and will simply be repeating FQTs/FAMs they already finished (ungraded). There’s currently still no plan to transition people to the floor after they finish the lab requirements as “they don’t know how they can maintain social distancing with additional bodies at the moment.” And of course, gotta wait until we go green or yellow for two weeks to even start implementing this master plan.

For comparison by Z made people do 2 warm up problems per sector. Usually 4-6 total depending on which sectors they were training on. You guys need to go to the union

This was the union collaborated plan.

I don’t have any problem running some extra warm up lab problems, but it should be based on the trainee’s individual needs and what they feel they need to get back up to par, not just a bunch of forced extra time in the training department. And at the very least if you’re gonna force it, get people through it as quickly as possible. The thought of having to rot in the lab for 2 months when a recall finally does happen fucking sucks.

Yeah, it'd go great in the review board, well the trainee said they didn't need anymore time...

Yeah the whole point of article 67 is to get people back to the level of proficiency they were at previous to an interruption in training. If you just give a blanket amount to everyone, some people are gonna be sitting around doing pointless review they don’t want/need, and surely there’ll be someone who doesn’t get enough and is gonna bitch about it. Just let people run as many problems as they want, then it’s on the trainee if they’re up to speed or not.

You think they should have to basically redo the whole
Lab that they already passed?
Re-running problems you’ve already done is pointless anyways. There’s one or two major things that happens in a problem and it’s not hard to remember what it is, when it happens, and what to do. Completely defeats the purpose if you’ve already seen it.

I don’t think you should but if if they didn’t then anyone who fails will just say they didn’t get enough review and the trb will say they get to start over anyway.

You already get additional free lab skill enhancement under the contract if you suck kn the floor

Then why not let the trainees decide for themselves and put it on them? Say you get as many problems as you want until you feel you’re back to where you were.

*or technically, I think the contract says they’re supposed to give you grade sheets, and once they’re similar to the ones you were getting before, then you’re good to go.

This isn’t a bad idea but know they won’t spend the time to do it. Easier to make everyone start over.

No. But I also hate to see people recycled all the time because after they wash they claim they needed ‘X’ even if they admitted they didn’t need it at the time.

you’d be surprised how people change when they are about to be shown the door. Then it is everyone’s fault but their own.

Greater then 10 years ago a lot of centers were allowed to regularly train D and R together at the same time. It had existed in the training order before, but this was slightly different and better in my opinion.

It died because when people washed they claimed it they would have been successful if they trained D first and then went to R school. A lot of people washed and immediately claimed this even if it was baseless. Some returned to even wash the old fashioned way.

it was great for competent trainees, but we do everything to the lowest common denominator here in the FAA.... so... here we are.

Isn’t it more efficient to recycle 1-2 guys instead of essentially recycling everyone?

The ole “no controller left behind” method. Gotta love it......

What shitty facility came up with that plan?
