TSEW waiver

My facility said I will be getting a waiver for TSEW because I have up/down experience. No extra OJT hours or sim time will be given if I sign this waiver. I heard it’s a great class to learn how to work busy finals, but there’s a huge backlog for the academy so I could be potentially waiting for a year or longer for a class.

Any input on whether TSEW is worth skipping is appreciated.

Skip it no OKC class no matter how good is worth waiting on a backlog for.

what does “no extra sim time” mean? I’d make sure it’s completely explicit as in “no time in substitution for tsew” and keep copies.

As mentioned above, I would get everything in writing 100% And I wouldn‘t sign anything that says “I am requesting to not go to this course”. Bottom line is, if you flub your sim eval you’ll want something to be able to use to grieve the training not done in a fair and equitable manner.

We’ve had issues with people not passing the sim at my facility, and through the years it’s gotten to the point where even if you’re struggling, you’re not allowed to work extra problems or anything like that, due to past grievances getting a second shot because “the sim partner stayed past our shove and did extra problems on a couple of days“

Also, be clear and ask the training manager or support manager what exactly happens if you don’t go to OKC for this class that everyone else gets, and then you don’t pass the sim. Do you get a second shot on a backup eval?

Has anyone had experience getting a waiver for TSEW lately? Here are the circumstances I am working under, I am a 13 year controller who will be transferring from a center to a TRACON. I have experience working airport control with towers and class E and G surface areas (similar to satellite in the TRACON). I worked sequencing into multiple airports that included blending streams, assigning speeds and vectors (similar to Feeder). And I have extensive experience vectoring to final, setting up flow into airports.

I know the new 7120.4 requires TSEW for anyone going from enroute to TRACON, but considering my experience, the pandemic, and the fact that I will be sitting at my facility for a few months waiting for a TSEW class date, is there any chance of getting a waiver? Who would you contact to request one?

Yeah we got one for my current trainee.
Tbf, the other trainer on the team mercilessly bullied management until they capitulated to her demands.

TSEW was a complete waste of time in my opinion. The C-to-A concept is trash, at least in the way that they teach it. Maybe someone from C90 can weigh in since I guess that's where it originated but I took nothing from the class other than rote repetition of giving approach clearances.
