Next ATC zero?

I’ve said it 10 times but Continually closing thousands of miles of airspace is a safety and national security issue.
While there are no air traffic services being provided, you realize that the airspace is at least monitored correct?

I’ve been surprised about how this hasn’t been in the news more. Guess the loser of the election not accepting the results and massive covid everywhere overshadows everything else.
It goes to show you how much the news doesn’t know about our world closing a facility for 2 hours or less has minimal impact. Not enough to make the news apparently.

And not being open and ready to help during an emergency or operation is not very cool
I don’t disagree this isn’t a long term solution but yet again you don’t know the whole picture. Also they don’t close adjacent centers at the same time.

Everyone knows regardless of impact the news will report something if they can make it seem like a big deal. Remember when midway closed? Not really that big of a deal on a NAS wide scale but it was national news.

That was the first. That was a huge impact then. Now it’s become common place.

The whole picture is we shouldn’t gloss over thousands of miles of airspace being closed once a week. It’s ridiculous. Moreso that by the time the test comes back positive the cleaning is totally pointless.

The whole picture is to close three adjacent centers at the same time and blow shit up (media attention not airplanes). Bet people are recalled then!

Until the workforce as a whole complains about the safety and national security issues it won’t change. Or the media destroys them. But we can talk about this until we are blue in the face, back to my original point, some people see it as an extra night off and don’t give a crap beyond that.

I'd contend the national security issues are way way above my pay grade, as is safety on a scale larger than me separating airplanes. If the FAA decides in thier infinite wisdom to close facilites and thinks it's safe, that's not my problem. Anything that happens isn't your fault, not like you have input to say otherwise.

It's not like they are doing these overnight shutdowns at peak traffic time, and the space isn't being monitored.

I agree cleaning 5 days after the fact for a virus with a 24 hr lifespan outside the body (if I remember correctly) is kind of silly, but I'm glad they aren't doing nothing, as then you'd have more complaints on that, and I guarantee them doing nothing would absolutely bring media attention.

Doing something would be like cleaning the facility every day. Or testing the workforce at random or weekly

No arguments from me, but you seen what they are being charged for cleanings? And if they need to close an area/fac to Decon it daily, what are they accomplishing in terms of solving the closure problem everyone seems upset about?

I agree with your first paragraph, that you alone have not much say, but you better believe if the entire workforce wanted us to be considered national security the union would be fighting for that since that’s what we want.

The airspace is Absolutey being monitored. They know if any ifr penetrate the space and if something suspect is happening they have visual on the target and can send military if need be into an uncontrolled airspace. So saying national security is at stake isnt really accurate just slower than normal maybe.

And yea I agree they are at least doing something but when multiple employee show up to work symptomatic you better believe either natca will be on board with discipline or the faa will stop cleaning at some point.

I'm totally fine with some kind of action against people who show up symptomatic, 100 percent, and natca should be too if they are worried about the collective health and safety of BUEs and want a safe workplace.

If it's the middle of a pandemic and you are showing up sick with symptoms of the disease, that makes you an asshole, and natca should absolutely be doing something along with the FAA to protect the rest of the people working there.

My point is we’re spending all this money on cleaning theatre but doing nothing proactively.
