Wanted to make a post for the Alaska FSS direct hire bid since I haven’t seen it on here yet.

I applied to this opening a while ago, and got this email back in March. I assume they are not taking any outside applicants for a while and are prioritizing taking in ATC academy washouts:

Thank you for your interest in applying to the Air Traffic Control Specialist Trainee public notice announcement for the Alaska Flight Service Station (AAL-ATO-24-PUB NOT-92633).
As indicated in the vacancy announcement: “This Public Notice will serve as a resume repository – positions may or may not be filled from this announcement.”
At the present time, we will not be rating and referring applicants through this public notice announcement.
If the need arises for additional applicants in the near future, all of those who have applied to this public notice will be rated and sent forward for the Air Traffic Skills Assessment (ATSA) test.

I guess this was a way for them to get several applicants in a pool to be able to pick people out on a as needed basis. If you get any updates in the further feel free to share to this post.

just an update for you and anyone looking at this thread:

I was an academy wash out early this year, applied for the job announcement that was canceled (before the cancelation obviously) and just got an email a few days ago asking if i was interested, said yes. I didn't apply to this new bid that i saw someone link, didn't know there was a new one until now. Today got an email asking for me to rank facilities and requesting my SF-50

also for context i washed out of enroute by 2 points on my last ERAM and got BQ on atsa before they changed the ranking categories.

enroute by 2 points is brutal man, sorry to hear. Flight service doesn’t do any separation. I’m not sure why it’s considered ATC

Yeah I was down bad (pls don’t tell the FAA 🙏🏼) for a long time and mad they didn’t put in me in terminal lol

I know fss doesn’t do separation but for now it’s the best option to fill this empty hole inside me after those 2 points
