Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-17-ALLSRCE-53474

Hello everyone,

New to this very helpful forum. I was at the academy a few years back for enroute and resigned after my first radar eval (needed 2 98's on my last 2 runs to pass - but that's another conversation). Figured I'd give it another shot and re-applied for this bid and got another TOL & CIL for enroute.

Welcome, and thanks for the data point!

I would prepare your inbox with a flood of questions regarding the academy haha

For reference, what bid and year were you selected on the first time through the academy?

Why? If you required two 98 scores to pass the Academy you probably weren't doing very well prior to resigning. I'd ask my questions of someone who completed the Academy successfully

As a learning tool. “What would you have done differently” would be the first question that would come to my mind.

I've thought about this - the one thing I would've done differently is ask for help when needed. The class moves too fast to try and put things off and assume it'll all make sense & come together later. Especially NR.

I probably wouldn't seek advice from someone who didn't make the cut either. However, questions welcome =]

@breakaway2000 there was once a link I found I’m pretty sure it was here and not stuckmic, with the AT terminal basics material. Not the run through post but actual PDFs of the learning material... I know the website is no longer active through the FAA but I swear I found this once... do you have any idea where I can find this??

It’s in the resources. Discontinued - Air Traffic Basics
It’s obsolete though. Caveat emptor.

Guess that worked out better for you than Hitchcock or I... haha

I think it’s because I applied under the having enough employment history category. But, for some reasons they didn’t count some of my part time work. They probably figured this out when pushing out my CIL. So, I was asked for my degree instead.

Can someone help me out with the pay frequency at the academy? I know it's bi-weekly but I can't figure out when a pay period starts, if my day to report is on a Wednesday obviously my first check won't be a full paycheck. Will they cut me a one week check or wait until the next pay to give me a check?

It's all direct deposit. Pay period beings on a Sunday. Sorry not much help beyond that. Not sure when you will get your first payday
