Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-17-ALLSRCE-53474

And that doesn’t mean go and call your rep to ask them if they can get a CIL or EODS or TOL out before the shutdown. Leave them alone and let them work, they do their best work when left alone.

If you got a TOL, no need to worry. Again there are some people from the August bid in 2016 who still have not received an FOL. Does that mean they will receive their FOLs and academy dates before anyone in this bid? Maybe, maybe not, it’s really a guessing game at this point and there are no right answers. It’s a bunch of hurry up and wait at this point.

Best piece of advice I’ve seen is don’t wait around for the emails, they will come. Go and live your life while you wait because you may end up waiting a while.

Won't matter. Background investigations stop... Who knows if the flight surgeon is considered essential

I know it is for the purposes of keeping controllers medicals up to date but for pre-employment people it seems unlikely.

"After sequestration cuts and the 2013 government shutdown suspended hiring for 10 months, the FAA expunged a well-qualified candidate list of over 3,000..."

quick, everyone panic!

For peace of mind, that quote is wildly misleading. The 3,000 they're referencing is a list of people who were not hired on the bid prior to sequestration. Well qualified candidates were those that scored between an 85-100 on the AT-SAT (the predecessor to the AT-SA). Back then, bids used to run twice per year for CTI and prior experience military controllers. There was no BA, everyone that was eligible for the bid took the AT-SAT. They would typically see 4,000-5,000 applicants and hire 800-1,000 every 6 months. Sequestration did not expunge that list, the hiring changes in 2014 expunged that list as all those candidates that had gone through the pre-employment process and deemed well qualified now had to start over at ground zero.
