Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

I don’t think not telling them would make it any better to be honest.

If they are crap, they’ll need to know either way. Wait for them to get the letter and find out or just be straight up.

Anyone's references not receive anything yet? My poc told me that she let hr now I cleared security but no one has received anything yet. I submitted eqip on 3/1.
Mine said that too. Now I have to schedule an interview with a backround investigator. I don’t know that anyone should believe they are “cleared” until they have an FOL.

Along these lines:
What happens if you are granted a conditional security clearance and you get a class date, but one or more references don’t return the survey? Just trying to figure out how much weight these surveys carry.

What happens if your employer says that you’re a total piece of shit?
My guess is that you'll get a phone interview. I'm sure it happens from time to time, but I'm pretty sure they're just trying to verify if you're a security risk or not. Just like when you get a clearance for the military, but there's no clearance here.

Your references will more than likely not be contacted until after the actual investigation begins. It seems that they look through your e-qip to determine if you are eligible for a conditional clearance based on things like how you answered employment history and financial stuff. Some of the people from last years bids or even older have stated that they did not have an interview until they were already months into their first facility. So they will absolutely contact our references and family eventually.

Typically how long after you submit your eQip is it before they reach out to your current employer? I assume they won’t give you a heads up beforehand? I tried asking my security POC but she never replied...

For me it was 10 days, I'm from Puerto Rico currently living in TX. Both my current employer and one from the island got the letter in 10 days.
I told my boss 2 days before the letter arrived and they ask me every single day about update. Like I dont have enough with the stress and the email refreshing hahahaha anyway you should tell them as soon as you can otherwise it will be awkward.

Just wanna say that this has been a hell of a ride and even if I do get a FOL it’s going to be pants-shittingly terrifying. I’ve lived in the same place my whole life, I’m comfortable, and now I have to literally change my entire life to grow personally. I’m scared but ready. Who knows if I get my FOL but this has been a good lesson. We only live once. If it’s taught me anything, it’s that I need to shake my life up.

You're going to get a FOL, you've completed everything up to actually receiving it.

Sorry if this was answered already... but how do we go about booking our flights for it to be reimbursed. I know we get a welcome package 5-10 days before our start date with a ton of housing and transportation information but I have to leave for OKC a specific day (so i can make my graduation) and kinda wanna schedule my flight early to make sure I get the day and time i need but not sure what the FAA reimbursement policy is. I tried looking under the student services page.

controllerfreak, once you get the welcome packet you call the travel agency and they book the flights for you. That's what I saw on the student services site anyway. I'm expecting my welcome packet in a couple days.

You can show up in OKC whenever you want but the FAA will only give you per diem starting the day before your class.

When is the specific day? The FAA will only book you a flight the day before your class starts, so as long as you're not graduating literally the day before your class start date you'll be fine. They'll give you a phone number and you'll book with their third-party travel agency. The agents have always been willing to accommodate any time/airport/airline preferences I've had, so it's not like they force you into the worst flight they can find.

Technically if you really needed to, you could book the flight yourself and take your chances getting reimbursed, however it's a risk. They'll only reimburse you what they would have paid using the government's preferred rate, so you could easily be out a few hundred bucks. A guy in my class did that and only got $140 back for a flight he paid $300 for.

Oh okay thank you! I graduate the 11th and start at the academy on the 13th

Hey guys, a few pages back I posted that I called HR and was told I'm best qualified but haven't received a TOL. I know there are others in the same position as me, but I'm wondering if part of the reason I wasn't selected is that I'm living abroad, and have been for the past 6 years (I'm not military). Has anyone else gone through this process while living abroad? Does it cause any issues with getting security clearance? Does the FAA maybe not want to pick candidates who are living abroad because it could be an inconvenience? Or am I just thinking too much into this?
