Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

And here I am still unable to get my medical poc from aerospace medical division to confirm they got my VA records after sending them a second time. ?

To all the current ATCs or people with experience, what does it mean to "wash out" from your facility? I know after graduation, we get our placement at a facility. I'm guessing we'll be placed in trainee mode? Does it just mean you were unable to pass that facility's requirements? Some of these facilities have like a 60% pass rate. Just looking for more information on why these numbers are so low..

Washout is when you fail multiple check rides and after skill enhancement training you still can't do the job. Once you wash depending on how far you are and what level facility your at you may be offered another low level facility to choose from as well as flight service or a non 2152 specialty in the FAA. What your trainers say about you kinda determines your fate so don't be a douchebag trainee and they'll take care of you. If you wash at the academy you are terminated from the FAA. If you cheat on a test at facility you will also be terminated. And if you wash before your probationary period you may be terminated

Pretty much. In the AF "washing out" was accomplished by failing training events/quals/tests/evals or just being a general douche and pissing off your trainers at your facility. You could be "washed out" for losing medical/security clearance during training also.

(This was for the Air Force, I imagine the FAA is similar.)

Thanks for the info! Just hard to imagine that many people washing out even after graduating academy with a low enroute pass rate.

Does the FAA website linked to the USAJOBS account show anything different if you receive a TOL? Does it change from 'referred' and 'you are one of those being reviewed' to something different?

I got an FOL before the pay increase went through, haven't gotten an updated one yet.

Base 18785, OKC locality 28.22%, adjusted 24086.

I'm expecting another 1.4% on top of that, my HR POC said locality was still up in the air. (Actually she said to expect a 1.9% increase but I'm assuming that's because the headlines said 1.9% so she didn't know about the base/locality split.)

Yeah, the position is in the FG pay scales (FG-2152-01) and apparently that pay scale has its own FAA-specific locality tables, separate from the OPM tables. I did a little searching but couldn't find a list of those localities.

Academy students are paid like they work in DC...same locality.
Full-time employment in Oklahoma City does have the RUS locality, but it doesn't apply to new-hires at the academy.

Nope. OKC locality is 28.22%. It's on my FOL too.
But I also got mine before the pay raise was actually signed.

Academy locality isn’t based out of OKC. It’s based out of D.C. locality.

So around $11 an hour plus per diem pay..... is that enough to save up to move? Did you guys find moving financially easy ?

Per diem is something like $94/day... I’m an OKC native and only got $59/day, and I still managed to save up $5000 over the 4 months I was there. The per diem isn’t taxed. All combined, I think it equates to just under $50K/year.
