Foreign ATC to FAA

Just curious and completely hypothetical and speculative BUT let’s say I worked for 3-5 years in Dubai (DXB - Dubai International Airport), would that hold any weight whatsoever when applying for prior experience?

Worth noting is I am prior military and also have contract tower experience totaling in 4 CTOs prior to DXB.

DANS (Dubai Air Navigation Services) do recognize US qualifications and experience as far as their hiring process goes for the record.

DXB by itself, no, prior exp bids require FAA ratings which are US military, FAA facilities, or FAA contract facilities. You're prior CTOs might though.

Well I know my 4 CTOs more than qualify me, was just curious if working at one of the world’s top 5 busiest airports held any weight or would I still be offered level 4 or 5 facilities ?

It certainly is a considering factor but making $150k tax free (no income tax in Dubai) carries it’s own weight as well lol

Yeah but I imagine it's a mix of ICAO vs FAA vs sovereign nation procedural differences and the whole busiest and most complex NAS in the world thing.

Worlds top 5 in passenger movement maybe..... I didn’t see it in the top 20 of aircraft operations.

With CTO and contract experience maybe you’ll qualify for prior but will probably be offered level 5/6 and below. You’d make half your salary now and it will be taxed. Also don’t forget to work US ATC you need to be a US citizen.

While I don’t have a reliable source to defend my claim, I did watch an interview with their CEO(?) stating they were working something like 1,800 movements a day which by my calculations would qualify them for top 5 but there’s no substantiated evidence of this. Passenger wise (which obviously doesn’t mean shit) makes sense though, they’re the worldwide leader in A380 and B777 traffic. Anyways, I digress. It seems my question has been answered.

Isn’t it like ultra proceduralized? Descend via climb via on published routes? Versus like descending a 737 behind a king air and topping 5 GA airports within 5 miles of the class B?

Aren’t all high level/high volume tower only facilities ultra proceduralized? Isn’t your arrival sequence set up 50 miles in advance? Doesn’t ground have surface movement radar? Doesn’t clearance have the TDLS, PDC, CPDLC-DCL systems? Isn’t the local controller feet kicked up saying cleared to land...cleared for takeoff?

Idk maybe. But like Seattle has big jets poppin off like 3 miles from the runway end. New York is a mess. Plus there’s a ton of GA here.

im just asking cus I’m interested

I was being a little facetious lol the answer to my above statement is an overwhelming yes just based off the retired guys from those facilities I’ve run across in the contract world. As for Dubai specifically, I’m not entirely sure. I know they do have automated clearances at a minimum.

I know at HWO, we’d have little shithead 172s hang out on MIA and FLL’s arrival corridors all day long ?

“Towuhhhh cessnuh who fuh won zeho uniwhorm uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh wekwest tuh an gho.” ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️ Bro... what? We hated that shit just as much lol
I can tell by your swearing you might not be a good fit committed to professionalism and I sincerely hope the best for you

I got to go up in the Phoenix Sky Harbor time and I got bored after an hour. They were 100% “feet kicked up saying cleared to land...cleared for takeoff” They have a north local and a south local and north local was really boring cause the north runway is 99% landings so all they do is “cleared to land” “contact ground”

Yea not knocking Dubai or anything but any air traffic controller I know doesn’t brag about passenger movements, doesn’t really matter to atc.

He’s not wrong. Way over proceduralized and dumbed down.

Then you have the guys a few miles up the road at dear valley getting the shit kicked out of them for less money lol

I feel so bad for them. My friend owns a plane there but his hangar is on the south side and the self serve fuel is on the north side so we had to cross both runways to get fuel. Took us 20 minutes just to cross the first runway lol. We also heard a pilot deviation while waiting too
