IQTR class pass rate

It’s sad man, I know it’s been discussed in here many a time that every ERR creates two trainees and the FAA hates that, but there’s no quality of life in this career field. Nor potential for any career progression anymore. They [FAA & NATCA] have ruined what once was a rewarding and great paying job.
You have to fix placement. You can’t just create thousands more who want transfer. There were probably people forced to go to these “desired” places that want out

I agree with this. The premise of new hires going places CPCs have been waiting years to ERR to is definitely fucked up and unfair, but if you don’t start making change from the bottom up, the problem is just going to recycle for decades.

We do have to change fundamentally, I agree. But what’s stopping us from sending AGs to 4/5/6s and checking them out to let those CPCs move to 7/8/9s (if they so desire) and let those move up to 10/11/12s? Hell the AGs could move up themselves after CPCing if hardly anyone there before them didn’t want to move.

All in all, I would say there are way more lower level facilities in worse shape than upper-mids and highs. Plus this would give all parties a fair and equitable shot at career progression. That last part is what the agency couldn’t give less of a fuck about.

The level system just needs to be abolished.

there’s rumors that they will be shutting down that facility and giving their airspace to Santa Barbara, la center, and back to the military. Then those controllers will get to go anywhere.
Would be a solid bet a few years back but now a days who knows what will happen. SMO was going to be closed years ago, but yet it remains. Lots of chatter post Covid about San Juan’s airspace getting shipped off to ZMA and RSW (cause that makes sense). I think even FLO and maybe MYR were going to lose their radar to CHS at one point to gain a new facility there?

All that to say, you could still easily be stuck somewhere like JCF for years with no light at the end of tunnel

The 10k bonus and sending people to black holes. These are mainly kids and they see 15k and think they hit it big.

CHS I believe just finished or is close to finishing the new radar facility to take in MYR, FLO, and maybe another radar facility. Could be wrong but pretty sure that's what I was told a few months back from a CHS controller. That's been in the works for years though and still probably a couple years from actually happening

We’re getting a little off-topic, but SMO is an interesting one. The residents around the airport have wanted it gone because of the noise. But because of the shortage of housing in the LA area, the city would make them build new housing and some of it would have to be low income. From what I have read, the residents prefer the airport over section 8 housing being built next to their nice homes. There are plenty of people who went there thinking they will get a golden ticket.

Then didn’t they shelter the runway so jets couldn’t get in anymore?
