Michael Redmond for EVP

I completely disagree with this.

Attempting to silence the opinion of hundreds of members is wildly undemocratic, and opposite to the idea of a union in general. Everyone gets a voice, even if you disagree with it.
No one suggested silencing you, the statement was no endorsing. Its undemocratic and selfish endorsing candidates as a representative before nomination periods have even opened.

There is a difference between an opinion and an endorsement and I believe this is what Mike was trying to say.

If you voice support to a candidate, could that not be taken as an endorsement?

Let's extrapolate this out, too. You pass an amendment banning "endorsing" candidates in NATCA elections. That trickles down to your locals too. Your area rep now can not voice their opinion on a local eboard election.

I think the intention behind the idea is sound, but execution and real world applicability makes it a non-starter.

I agree there needs to be no campaigning prior to the nomination period. The length this has gone on has harmed the Union.

I do look forward to your take on the other candidates if/when this thing comes down to a run off. People will be asking, I'm sure.

It could be as simple as not endorsing using Natca Listserves, Facebook pages, bulletin boards etc. Just having a chat with a coworker? Go team. Making a speech as the FacRep at a union meeting? Inappropriate.

That's already a DoL rule. Can't use Union resources to campaign.

Mike posted an update, important information in there if you take a minute to read.

Great news. I think he is well spoken and made his argument in this really well .

Rich has been the one doing the misstepping the past 3 years. That's quite the leap to believe he will change the way he has been doing things.

Squirrels also aren't pathological liars, and have atleast an iota of social awareness. Things Rich struggles with.
Again not disagreeing, but NDJH have stretched the truth quite a bit as well. Comparisons aside, NATCA needs to watch its finances, the LM2's do not give a positive growth and this does concern me given NDJH spending habits. Not to mention the contract extension goal.

TLDR: We need more people to run more often.

So here we are, almost a week after a runoff was forced, the membership that has voiced concern, dissatisfaction, screamed for change and was ignored, as I will refer from this point forward as the 20 percent. They were told to shut up and sit in the corner for numerous years, starting with the Rinaldi Cartel, they were dismissed, shamed and told everything is fine.

Well, here we are and just like we have been saying, everything is not fine. We are tired, overworked and underpaid, living an entirely different life than those that lead us or that have aligned behind those running to lead our Union. Our NAS is falling apart, people are resigning like never before, we are a fatigued workforce. No reason to continue the list, as we live it and know it. So much negativity some say, but its reality for those of us that work every day in a facility.

Well, here is some positivity, for the first time in a long time, the 20 percent will control this outcome. The 20 percent determine how our Union moves forward. Don’t waste this power, look at other campaigns in its entirety. What did they start spouting a year ago (unbelievable it’s been that long), when did the message change? Was it because they listened to some of our issues or was it because they had to change course after ballots were counted and were shocked? Who started listening and when? Was it the past few months or was it the last week that a message has started changing? Who has told us what to do or that they know better? Who is providing actual solutions, who is owning missteps and mistakes or who is putting blame on others constantly?

Part of this whole stepping in for me, was to bring change and a voice. Clearly, I feel that my voice is best carried on with Rich & Mick, that does not mean I agree with everything they have done or believe in their campaigns completely. But it does it mean, that these are the two candidates left that best represent the 20 percent, what we wanted and the most likely to address our issues moving forward. Like I said when I showed my support for Mick & Rich, they have had open dialogue, listened and were always cordial every conversation throughout my campaign.

I did not hear once from the actual NDJH candidates until after the ballots were counted.

The establishment is now running, Justin and I are not in, but the 20 percent owns who the next establishment answers to. So you all need to figure out who you believe it is. I believe it is Santa & Devine and am always open to the discussion if you want to reach out to me to have that conversation. Start with an email, [email protected] I am gong to leave the website and email open for another few months.

All of that said, to say this: I encourage you to continue to use that voice that was silenced for so long, call out the Bull Shit, do your research, ask questions, provide suggestions. Listen to the remaining candidates, listen to the actual message, not the fluff.

Thank all of you for all your support over the past few months and speaking up, its time we take back our work environment and hold our Union accountable!

Sincerely,

Mike Redmond
