Midair Collision DCA

I was 0% going to leave the union, I really felt like it was better to be apart of it and to have a say. To stand together and support eachother especially at the local level. However, I do not know anymore if I can stay any longer after today. Our Union is a joke, they have absolutely failed to step up in a time of crisis. We (NATCA) pay many people good money to deal with these types of things. All I have seen last night and today is a few nearly useless emails to members, a few Facebook post of the same content. A failed interview on CNN (why not any other stations anyways?), a Facebook video that pretty much only members will see, and an offical statement that says almost nothing of value. Our president or someone else can't be in DC and get our message out better?

We already have been losing our standing in the public eye, and this situation is starting to spin out of control from a narrative point of view. We absolutely need the flying public on our side and NATCA has failed to get ahead of or to battle this crisis. This hasn't happened in over a decade... this is a HUGE event for us, and our leadership can't even get a workable interview on CNN lol!

I feel terrible for the controller, overall he actually did a pretty dam good job. Even the recovery after seeing two hit, he stayed in it. This will get picked apart for years... but in the end, 30 seconds before this happened everything was going great. 99.99999% of the time it would have been fine.
If he was in the office he could have been on the bridge with all the other guests

The big question I have is what is possibly going on in Chicago that is so important that Nick couldn’t have been on a plane this morning and in DC? This is undoubtedly the biggest moment of his 1 term presidency and he’s not even on scene with the members who need him.
Wow. I thought he was in DC. He isn't there!?

I told myself I’d never post… but…

One of our fellow coworkers went through something none of us should have to experience. We can all talk about what he did right or wrong, or what we would’ve done better, watching from our Monday morning quarterback armchairs. Fuck the politics, fuck whatever the president, the media, NATCA says… this is something we all deal with every day at work, in every ATC environment. Most people will never understand just how many aircraft there are in the sky. You can follow every reg, use perfect phraseology, at some point something breaks. Unfortunately, for one of our coworkers, that happened. Now is not the time to say what we would, or should’ve done, but to support our fellow coworker. I’ve skimped on phraseology, I’ve been down the shitter, I’ve walked into the break room thinking I got lucky. We may never know what happened exactly, but should we all be trying to figure out who to point the finger at? I think we should be supporting each other for doing a job nobody understands, but they take for granted when they book a flight. Not trying to stir the pot… just my two cents…

Well said! I absolutely feel for the victims but I also can’t stop thinking about the state of mind or emotion our fellow controller is going through right now.

Not trying to point figure. No way. That's what management (loves) to do. Rather, here, discuss what we observed. Remind each other to stay vigilant of things that could catch us off guard. That way, we don't have to see ourselves, or each other, in these situations as little as possible, or ideally, ever.

Here is a prior Controller giving an interview. Not sure who he is but sounds like he is out of Chicago somewhere.

What he won’t say is there is rot in the system that allows people to train and train and train and never get stopped. I had a trainee go over 1000 hours of training on local when we all knew they would never make it. THAT part of the system is broken and needs fixing.
That's yalls dumbass facility's problem. Don't put your incompetence at washing people out on national.
