Newark controller speaks out

Well, everything you suggested was good until you suggested “AI.” Why the hell do folks think AI is some magical solution? Are you seeing the news reports of dipshit attorneys trying to take the easy way out by using AI for their case briefs and then getting busted in court because the AI had them cite nonexistent cases? Don’t forget the lessons our math teachers taught us: “Garbage in, Garbage out.”
No, no. I didn't mean for AI to control, I meant AI to do other tasks. Maybe AI will give "suggestion" to Controllers. I'm not sure but I think it will be integrated into our future soon. I bet you could get it to read a clearance, maybe you could use it to call a restaurant for a chow-run.

I'm curious with all the noise surrounding this situation if in 5ish years this portion of Newark airspace isn't going to be a garden spot. I mean at this point it would appear the FAA is going to dump a lot of money. So over staffed, best equipment, with lots of AI for Controllers to supplement?
Could see the same happen to DCA. I mean, except for the AI part lol

I’m certain there will be more criticism, but the following is a video from the interview with the WSJ journalist that gives a little more context. I think some good points were made, and it also goes to show how journalists will cherry-pick quotes for their written articles.

I will say this still makes us look out of touch. Belittling fast food workers while at the same time complaining about our own shift work is pretty rich. I'm sure the average plumber, firefighter, ER nurse or doc, and police officer don't have much sympathy for us controllers working at 10s and above.

Don't say controllers are out of touch here they'll just say you're saying we don't deserve more

Do controllers need the “sympathy” of those folks in the occupations you cited, or do controllers simply need those folks to act in their own self interest? If those folks intend to fly on airlines, and if the controllers tasked with preventing one airliner full of passengers from colliding with another airliner full of passengers are saying the system is broken & unsafe, then it’s in their self interest to seek improvements to that broken system.
