Seems like a great time to reduce our dependance on oil if you ask me. I find the people who want to bitch and moan about high gas prices being the same people who are rabidly against getting away from it not only laughable but incredibly disengenous. Like ya slap that "I did this" Biden sticker on the pump, but what's your opinion on the green new deal, mandated efficiency standards, expanded public transportation, offering people incentives to go electric, etc?

Oh also against those things? Guess you just like to complain.
The pivot to electric vehicles is almost common sense at this point. The performance on them is insane, less maintenance compared to combustion engines, cleaner air and less noise pollution around major corridors, and they’re not even that much more expensive than gas burners. Hopefully as charging becomes easier and more models become available people will start to make the switch en masse. The American south will be majority electric by 2030 if Elon can find a way to add a holographic roll coal option and a synthetic muffler delete to the cybertruck.

But yea it’s more important to have something to bitch about so why make the change?

I'm a pickup man myself and frankly the new ford lightning, Chevy ev truck and rivian are all more enticing models to me than the vaporware cyber truck now, and I put a preorder down on the cyber truck. The rivian especially, I think they are a bit proud on the price though still.

I with you though, now is the time for a switch. I still want a gas burner for long road trips or whatever, but it's hard to argue with going electric for a daily driver/commuter. If gas gets and stays above 5 bucks a gal nationally, it's kind of a no brainer just for the savings in fuel alone. At worst you break even over the life of the vehicle.

You know you gotta charge these cars, what happens when the grid is over loaded or the government says they don’t want you driving because of climate change? Power goes out? The grid can’t sustain every person having EV. Just as every person can’t afford to get into debt for a $40K-$70K Tesla or EV that costs around the same (given the government incentive). Can’t mandate a college student to get tinto that type of debt while in college, come on man!

Talk about disengineous, the materials used for the EV batteries like cobalt and lithium are mined in a matter that’s about the same or even worse for the environment compared to oil. See photos

Lastly these mines use child slave labor in Congo. Talk about disingenous.

Just quit mandating crap and forcing debt into people. Nothing good comes from mandates, didn’t we learn from COVID.

*Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti EV, those who can afford it good for them, do it.*

This is the weakest take ever. Obviously we should invest in the grid too. And we we are. Off shore wind is coming no matter what.

Hopefully new battery tech will be more sustainable too

It seems like decades ago when “stop Asian hate” campaigns were in full swing because of unfair treatment towards people of Asian descent because of the actions of their leaders (real or suspected), but now it’s cool to hate people of Russian descent because of the actions of their leaders? This is insane. Who is supporting and pushing this crap?

Child slave labor, forcing the middle and lower class into debt is the weakest take?

Fuck the poor?

Xenophobic Dems - “They accuse us of what they do”

I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where the Democrats (a political party in the United States) are dictating what a hospital in Munich and an amateur orchestra in Cardiff can and can't do. Mind explaining it to me slowly?
Of all the things said that’s all you go for? Relax

You know you gotta charge these cars,
No shit.

what happens when the grid is over loaded
Huh maybe we should do something about our power infrastructure.

or the government says they don’t want you driving because of climate change?
Take off the tinfoil hat, and realize they could just as easily stop people from selling gas in this hypothetical lala land.

Power goes out?
If the power goes out long term we've got bigger problems.

The grid can’t sustain every person having EV.
The planet can't sustain the continued use of the oil that becomes more limited in supply every year.

Just as every person can’t afford to get into debt for a $40K-$70K Tesla or EV that costs around the same (given the government incentive). Can’t mandate a college student to get tinto that type of debt while in college, come on man!
Can they afford the additional gas expenses? It's one of the other at this point. And no one says you have to buy a brand new luxury model. There's tons of evs and hybrids now, even on the used market.

Nice concern trolling. Net emmisions from the manufacture of oil products and then thier use on top of that isn't exactly eco friendly, and obviously slave labor is bad and exists in many many industries across the globe, including oil. It isn't limited to lithium mines.

Just quit mandating crap and forcing debt into people. Nothing good comes from mandates, didn’t we learn from COVID.
Feel free to buy a Hummer for all I care Just don't complain and blame politicians when you are paying more than those that end up making the smart move and switching.

You sure sound like you are.

I haven't seen Dems contribute much to anti-russian hysteria, but I have seen two very influental Trump/Republican-hating Dems say some of the stupidest shit I've seen this year when it comes to gas prices:

ha, true that. Then we have people on here still actually mentioning the new green deal as some possible solution. Just a reminder, it’s patently insane, has no semblance of economic reality, would crush our economy. Nothing against electric vehicles,I really like the ev motorcycles coming out, just let it happen without being shved down our throat

I can't wait for the next toby Kieth song. Can't really use red white and blue in the lyrics for this one lmao. I'll listen to it while I eat my freedom fries.

Out of touch coming from them? Sure.

Are they wrong in their stance? No.

Are there going to be unforeseen consequences to these sanctions, political and other wise? Almost assuredly. Keep in mind Russia and Ukraine accounts more than 30 percent of global wheat production, more than the US by a good margin, along with a ton of fertilizer.

ha, true that. Then we have people on here still actually mentioning the new green deal as some possible solution. Just a reminder, it’s patently insane, has no semblance of economic reality, would crush our economy.
It's a good thing bills go to committee and get compromised on and details ironed out to go from pie in the sky to realistic then huh?

No one sane is talking about banning gas vehicles. Just don't bitch when you are paying 13 a gallon in 5 years and I'm adding 50 bucks a month to my electric bill.

you can say that, but AOC’s new green deal was so absurd and so extreme that it’s not even a starting point for compromise and negotiation

So people have no personal financial responsibility to make good decisions on their mode of transportation all the sudden? Huh. Interesting.

What an asinine take. The starting point is "what can we do to decrease fossil fuel expenditures and reduce both our emmisions and reduce our dependance on oil, that everyone realizes is a limited resource?" That's her take. Instead of plugging your ears and screaming UGHUHHHHH and ignoring the problem come up with a solution and compromise.

Haha, but you’re the asinine one that brought it up, not anybody else. and no…it’s not even a star5ing point for a solution or a compromise….top to bottom it is insane. and that’s why it has dropped completely off the radar
