I think blaming rap music is a cop out, sorry, that's laughable. I grew up banging DMX and shit in my truck I'm a productive member of society (kind of, mostly, I think?) What's next you gonna blame video games for school shootings?
haha I see what you're trying to say, no no I'm not trying to blame video games for school shootings I loved playing GTA, still WAITIN FOR GTA 6. but yeah I think rap music (uhhh sorry don't really listen to that anymore but the last one I remember is tekashi 69's music video for gummo is gonna be example) can have an influence on a young persons mindset, especially in the absence of role models. just looked up the lyrics and skimmed it briefly lol song mentions robbery, objectification of women, gang membership, etc. I just think it has an effect lol we can agree to disagree here

The rest of it, okay agree, but where do you think all those problems stem from? People overwhelmingly don't just choose to live shitty existences. People are products of thier environment. Change the environment. Maybe they'd have more emphasis on school if the schools prepared them for life and further education better. Maybe having that father figure home and not locked up for an Oz of weed and never able to get a decent job because if it is inhibiting a families ability to make a decent living where the kid don't have to become a corner guy to feed the little sister. Maybe that corner guy who gets locked up learns a skill and gets out and starts a business. Maybe all these things lead to better community ownership, and crime rate drops, maybe a lower crime rate brings in better business and outside investors and visitors, who further raise the tax rates and make the schools a little more self sufficient on the tax side.... Maybe thay drop in crime, combined with the decriminalization of drugs makes the cops less afraid of approaching young black men, less cops get shot at or assaulted during arrests, and we don't need the heavily militarized cops.....

I mean we are in complete agreement here lol, if you go back all I was saying is that the problem is black males commit more crime and that overly phrases like "the criminal justice system is racist" etc don't actually solve any problems and to me is just a lazy attempt at virtue signaling, if you remember my other long ass post that I replied to you with earlier about why I was upset about why there is rioting instead of a movement to spend the political capital that BLM has and actually effect real change via legislation, that means that we are in agreement and I'm on your side, we actually want the same things we are just in disagreement about how to get it done and I hope you can see how it is annoying to say the least to be accused of racism or some shit like that

YES let's do all of these things, but the violence erodes the political will that they currently have to actually something about it and it's foolish.

Absolutely no one is saying its a good thing that people are rioting and looting, just that we understand their frustrations. It's just taking away from the actual point of discussion. That the system has been, and still is, very unfair to African Americans. Yes its a complex problem with complex solutions, but your entire second paragraph in the post before this one is frankly disgusting.
can you tell me why you think what I wrote was disgusting I honestly want to know so that I can examine my own views and change them if necessary

like if I'm ignorant on the topic, like I admitted I was, and ventured a guess because I was asked to, rather than insult me why not take the time to tell me why I'm wrong and educate me?

I have not provided an explanation for why there is a higher rate of absentee fathers or lower income, the only thing that I have said is that the rate is there, which it is.
The only things that I have said is that a lack of a role model + poverty = more crime, nor have I discounted the things in your list. Let me know if you dispute any of that, if you don't, please explain how me saying any of that is... ya know, because I don't see it.

The -problem- is that black males are committing crimes. What is the solution? In your list, the only thing I think that would actually have a preventative effect on first offenders is school funding, and even if you did throw money at that, how does that address a general broken family structure and poverty?

Honest question: you have just been elected president and both congress and the courts are on your side, how do you solve this problem?

Remove mandatory minimums, remove private for profit prison systems and claim eminent domain over the facilities, promote education and skills training for prisoners, heavily fund mental health, heavily fun recidivism studies and solutions, heavily fund after exit programs.

It's an issue with a multitude of contributors, simply pointing out things without any relevant context is at best a horrible attempt at dialogue.

Look at the junk on this clucker guys..

sure man, i'll give it to you that nixon's war on drugs was designed to target blacks and hippies if that's what you were trying to say. but you honestly don't believe that black poverty and family structure have anything to do with black crime rates?
It has to do with someone named Travis getting a job interview before someone named Treyvon.

It has to do with people named Jamel not getting the same mortgage rates as those names James with the same credit and income.

I’m white, I can’t understand it because I don’t live it. When you see your spouse get followed around stores by security guards, in the year 2020, you can begin to appreciate what non-white people live through every day.

I know this internet comment won’t do anything to change your mind, but it makes me feel better to share.

FWIW these aren’t isolated incidents, we’ve been married 7 years and I’ve seen the disparity in airports, restaurants, on planes from flight attendants, grocery stores. It’s not being told you’re viewed a certain way, it’s actually experiencing it I think that gets people to the point of frustration where massive protests are the only possible means of expression. And also, my spouse is Hispanic, it can only be worse to be black.

Just my 2c as a white man

So I read your post and you said my mind isn't going to change, my question to you is change my mind about what?

Let me try and list what you were trying to say in your post so we can talk about it:

1) name discrimination in job and credit applications exist

2) Racism exists

Once again, we're in agreement here. The problem is the only thing I've said is that black absentee fatherhood along with black poverty are conditions (but not the only conditions) that can generate more crime. I've yet to see anyone actually acknowledge that, but what does happen is people will ignore that statement and come up with erroneous conclusions about my character or set up a strawman and associate me with that.

What are you trying to change my mind about?

PS here is my position restated so you don't have to go back and read everything

1) looting and violence are inexcusable and are a catastrophic waste of political capital to actually change things
2) black absentee fatherhood along with black poverty are conditions that can generate more crime, or restated, not having a dad and being poor means you're more likely to be a criminal.

2 is a statistical fact, and here's president Obama on it Obama Gets It Right, When It Comes to Fatherhood so... if you wanna try to change my mind then I'm still all ears

1 is my opinion and I've yet to see anyone actually disagree with that lol so... change my mind I guess? or nah lets move on

This is why we can’t have nice things
I think it's bullshit when they try to demonize controllers for falling asleep on mids. Should it be avoided? Yeah definitely but when you work a rattler every week and cant ever seem to catch up on sleep, throw in a mid at SJU where you have 0 ops on average between 1am and 4am...cant have anything in the tower besides a radio and a newspaper but yeah how dare you accidentally doze off running on 8 hours of sleep in the last 36 hours...

I was more referring to the guy going home to hammer one out leaving the other guy alone. The FAA hates leaving people alone when you don’t have to. Additionally, though I understand it’s hard to stay awake on a mid sometimes we do this to ourselves. If we wanted a different schedule I’m guessing we could have negotiated one by now.

So reference to this Boise story, before anyone sharpens their pitchforks or douses their torches in too much oil, read the article more and look at that relationship between the Tower and the Airport. It's clearly strained, even at the management level. They don't appear to trust each other. I think I had heard through the grapevine that the airport ops employee seemed to have an axe to grind with controllers, and reading up on the Bruce Gard actions and comments...he seems to think he's the controllers' boss or something.

But he flashed his truck's 'really bright' lights at a 300-foot-tall tower! From across the airport! Surely that would get the attention of a guy who might be, I dunno, taking a piss or looking in any other direction. Better yell at the other guy daring to grab pizza and stuff to snack on for the rest of the night since he's going to be upstairs the rest of the mid and obviously has the munchies.

As far as the Smokey McPott stuff, no defense there except just to say, anybody ever been pulled over in Idaho? The Mormon Mafia runs strong out there, lots of ski towns in the area, lots of non-momo hippies for the cops to bust on...the areas outside of Driggs and Idaho Falls were pretty notorious. Who knows, maybe the guy is a burner, but...everything looks like a nail if you're a hammer.
