What’s it for morbidly obese people over 70?
No doubt Trump’s odds were decidedly lower. Still partisan politics aside, we lose 50000 Americans every year from the flu and nobody bats an eye. Of course these numbers are higher but 50000 every year is plenty if you are one of the 50000. We have a vaccine for it and less than half the population even bother to get it. We lose over 30000 Americans a year to automobile accidents. We could save almost all of them by instituting a national 20 mph speed limit. We don’t because it would change life as we know it and destroy the economy. I do not brush aside the deaths from COVID as each person had people that loved them and mourn them. My very real fear is the solution will be worse than the problem and the world will sink into an economic depression. That would truly be a tragedy and I hope after the election, regardless of the winner sanity will return.

He’s not out of the woods. Day 7-10 is when the crashes come.

The usual arguement you'll get from the left would be to call into question your morality due to placing a priority of the whole over an individual possibility. An economic crash is a good example, most people think that it only affects the rich for better or worse, yet economic issues in the U.S. reverberate across the world and can either increase quality of life for many or kill many. Yet I'm waiting for 32 to call into question your morality for questioning the efficacy of solutions like it's not a normal thing to be done.

It’s not 50k per year, the highest its been in the last 10 years was like 60k and that was extremely high. And even if it was that’s from an estimated 50 million plus infections. We’re no where near that for covid. If you infected 50 million people with covid at the death rates you mentioned above you’ll be well over a million deaths.

I agree with your rationale FWIW, just remember that that minimizing the spread of the virus and keeping the economy opened up are not mutually exclusive.

The reason we haven’t been able to open up fully is because the administration‘s literal plan was “it will go away, like a miracle”.

Criticize doctors and Fauci and public health experts all you want, but if the federal government had taken the reigns and the President had led the country even half as well as Bush Jr. did in 2001, we would be fully open with social distancing and masks right now. Certainly revenues would be down but businesses adapt quite handily to challenges.

It makes me genuinely sad to hear our President encouraging people to get out there and get sick.

They showed how quickly a company or something organization can become crippled by not taking the virus seriously. Half the White House is out sick for the next 2 weeks now because of this.

The more I see the more I think he wants to lose. A 5th grader would know not to do something that’s going to get him in trouble then announce to the world that it’s his fault.

Not legal. Would be actual civil war if a state did this
Read the article again. Each of the states have laws about electors stating that they should be designated by popular vote. There is nothing at the federal level that requires such. The issue is that the plan (as relayed by many republican sources) is to raise as many legal challenges as possible to the accuracy of the vote. Then, push the challenges out until the count has to be certified and electors have to be verified (Dec. 8). Then, have the republican legislatures in the states say they clearly saw the election fraud and that the "valid" votes clearly show a republican advantage and validate republican electors. Since there is no certified county, it would be very difficult to challenge to the Supreme Court. Yes, if they are able to pull it off, it would be the final stage to a banana republic. One thing that the article got wrong is that if it does go to Congress, The House picks the president, but each state gets one vote. Right now, most of those states have more republican representatives (partially thanks to gerrymandering). That may change in the election and it would be the new Congress that choses the President and VP.

I doubt it’ll happen. Republicans going to start distancing themselves from Trump. Maybe they’ll pas a stimulus anyways. That would be hilarious
