Training hold

Anyone hear anything new about the training hold being extended again or how much longer developmentals are out of the game?
Last update I received was that a committee at the national level was being formed to decide how to get training back online, but there is also “no timeline yet.” That was Friday.

So I guess if they’re starting to discuss getting things restarted then maybe the hold isn’t being pushed back again? Who really knows though.

I was told the ya re working off may 15th but they haven’t really talked about a plan to reopen or to extend. So basically there is no plan.

I’m fully prepared to be called back in to work on the 15th and then sit around for a couple weeks while they figure out what they wanna do.

I assume there’s going to be a huge backlog in the labs. Every trainee is going to need spool up time, and with traffic down to nothing, that means it’s probably going to have to come in the form of lab problems.

And the CPCs are going to have to transition back into normal crew schedules before any OJT can continue anyways. I think they’re going to try and get us back in the buildings ASAP, but there’s going to be a hell of a lot of sitting around for several weeks, possibly even months.

It’s BS that NATCA isn’t even talking to us. Like if this workgroup exists maybe sending an email saying what is going on. Luckily I’m first up for the lab when we get back. I was gonna run my first problem the next day after the shutdown

Ive literally heard from management 3 times over the past week, but haven’t received any updates at all from NATCA since we were sent home (unless the national emails count). It’s really disappointing, even if there’s no real updates, at least reach out and touch base with people. We still exist. It’s a bad sign when management is communicating and keeping in touch and you’re not hearing anything from the union you pay dues to.

Same. I talked to management on Wednesday. Sounds like your committee news happened after that. Not a peep from natca.
Also I wonder if the remotes will come back. They are probably making more on unemployment.

So training is on hold but the keep posting jobs daily in usajobs. How are they going to fill the jobs and details when the country is shit down? Are they hiring without interviewing or saving all these jobs for after? So lots of training to do, lots of positions to attempt to fill ?

I’m definitely concerned about SAIC staffing once we go back. Our facility short staffed on remotes and instructors to begin with, and all of them were working part time. I bet there’s going to be at least a few who think it’s not worth coming back. Not to mention a lot of the instructors are elderly and have health problems. They might not want to risk coming back to work until it’s safer.

Well at least they're talking about it somewhere. Not that means much though. Our facility has basically told us they don't know anything and are waiting to here. Our Union rep gives us weekly updates as to where everything is at usually around the time they're switching crews. Just hasn't been much info as far as training and developmentals go. At a local level our Union reps are pretty active at keeping us in the loop. Sounds like that's not the norm unfortunately.

I'll honestly be surprised if we go back the 15th. They haven't even mentioned transitioning off this schedule which they've gotta do first. Not sure about labs though for us. I just finished rside labs not even a week before we got kicked out. Not to mention getting recertified on everything else as well. That'll be fun.

Same with us. While I wouldn't call most of them elderly they're all in the high risk group for sure.

I don’t know if it means anything, but checking webscheduler shows this current schedule posted until June 6th. I’m not familiar enough with the backend stuff to know if that’s a big deal or not.

I don’t see why they have to transition off the schedule to reopen classroom training/labs.

And we could go on their schedule on the floor for OJT. Especially if it’s radar training. D sides would be hard with reduced staffing.

They could absolutely do that. Only way I'd see that is if we're transitioning back to normal though. While it makes sense I'll be surprised if they decide to do anything that's not a 100 percent bringing all the trainees back at once.

I’m really excited to see what idea they come up with to maintain social distancing between an R side and a D side. I’m betting on a giant sheet of plexiglass that they’ll punch holes in to be able to communicate.

If they make some regions wait for like ZNY that would be crazy. But who knows. See y’all in august
