Training hold

Hey, I just got to a Core 30, at least let me enjoy the NATCA high life for a little while......
One day when I grow up I hope to be like yall,
Fair enough, but they're fighting for the "safety" of those who are "essential." or something.

Shitty, yes. Even more shitty - the folks at home who have impending furloughs coming in october.
Just curious how much time in the agency do you have?

Lol it is absolutely a direct correlation. I'm guessing you mean to say it's not a linear correlation.

For those that are still complaining and are saying that trainees should be brought back on a facility by facility basis:

They are. You may not have been, but there are a number of facilities that have recalled or are starting to recall trainees. You have been fairly compensated (likely more than fairly) for the work you have done and are currently qualified to do. Yes, we all understand how frustrated you are and why you are frustrated. That doesn't make you entitled to more money, or mean that you should come back early to train on nothing and put others at risk. You're on a paid vacation, please excuse everyone for not rallying behind bringing you back for no reason and potentially shutting down a facility.

I seriously don't understand how this conversation is still going on? The value doesn't outweigh the risk in a lot of places. Your entire argument is essentially "I don't care about anything except my raises." That is an impossible cause for the union to champion after fighting for our safety during the pandemic.
Weird how’s its safe to bring trainees back to keep 5/5 but not safe enough to train. ?

On the landline FB group, pilots were bitching today about how the reduced ATC schedules are ridiculous for traffic levels right now.
As in it’s too busy for the number of controllers working? Pilots really have no idea what happens in a control room, they are a terrible judge of anything ATC related except for a bad vector through final lol.

Something along the lines of some ZLA controller had a bunch of freqs and the dude had to ident and call like 5 times to get a response or something.

You know they can’t just up and furlough people, right? It has to come from a lapse of funding to the Agency as a whole. I was stupid enough to swap my furlough days during the sequester and ended up never seeing that 8 hours of pay again.
I’m going to assume this is your first rodeo. Welcome aboard, slugger. Strap in.

And that pilot was also probably blocking readbacks on every other frequency. Happens all the time even when we’re normal staffed. They’ve all got this “I’m the only one in the sky” syndrome. Perhaps they were on the phone with flight service?

If trainees went back to work and somebody contracted the virus because of it, then members would kick and scream that the union didn’t do enough for the safety and well-being of its members. Yes, it sucks being home and not advancing. However, mitigating the risk of spreading a virus is much more important. In regards to traffic being on the rise: look at the TSA numbers. Passenger counts are at roughly 15% of what it was a year ago on the same day (16.5% for June 7). That’s not exactly storming back or a “V-Shaped Recovery”.
I'm not 100% sure if trainees not going to work is in the same category as OKC closing, one would be union and the other is FAA. Call me an asshole if you want, but my priority is not mitigating the virus. My priority is making sure my ass is covered. Right now I'm making $280 a week after deductions, TSP, insurance, NATCA, etc. I'm drowning here, I need to go to work because the same organization that doesn't seem to have any sort of plan to return to work, is very quick to point out their policy on no moonlighting. I would LOVE to have AG pay and sit at home. My after taxes pay rate is $7/hr, I would be doing so much better on unemployment.

Whatever scum. You should just be happy to have the greatest job in the world.

Just a reminder that if you stay home, you save lives. There is no reason to think that nationwide lockdowns have any impact on anyone, and to suggest otherwise means you are putting wall street profits over human life.

Or is that last month? Oh, wait, that's last month. My bad.

It is obviously safe at this point to allow everything save for mass-orgies. There is no reason to think that this virus is going to overwhelm hospitals now that a few people are keeping 6 feet apart from one another and a few municipalities have mask mandates. Send this guy back in!

You're paying NATCA dues before you're an Academy Grad? I call BS.

Who told you that you can't moonlight? Did you actually ask? Did you ask someone that actually matters and has authority to approve or deny that request? I was given the okay by my ATM to do some side hustle while on EA. If you haven't asked the question to the person with authority than I don't think you can really complain. Moonlighting pre pandemic sure. You're job is to get certified as quickly as possible. Now though.... Feel like there's some leeway.

You can’t join NATCA until you report to your facility. Have you done that already? And if you absolutely need to, you can stop your TSP deductions for the time being. It’s not the smartest option, but if you need cash flow now, something to think about.

and you can absolutely have a 2nd job working for the Agency. Search for the FAA Standards of Conduct. The only stipulation is you basically can’t work for an airline. During the shutdown I drove for Uber. I know people right now driving for DoorDash and what not.

We are not allowed to work 9-5, M-F (3 hours of Zoom w/ instructors and 5 hours of 'self-study'.) Yes, we are allowed to work the weekends and after hours. That's very limiting. My background is in aviation OPS, charter and Mx. Without that restriction, I would get a job in line with my old life and be just fine. I did apply to Target for shits and giggles. No one is hiring in my area at the moment, but since COVID is winding down and every company other than the FAA is winding up, I guess that will get easier.

We're on admin leave, and required to show up for 3 hours of Zoom and 5 hours of self-study. So no working M-F, 9-5.
