If you think we are underpaid compared to our private counterparts you are insane and not paying attention to the outside world.
We make way more than what is required to be fully vested plus all the benefits and extras we get.
Get the fuck out underpaid. I am not a best job in the world but seriously? Wow. We top out at 197 if lucky enough to be at a level 12 and 100 k at most other places Not including differentials.

We don't really have "private sector counterparts" to compare our wages to. In the US, the government is behind almost every ATC job, (Military, FAA, and federal contracts).

It looks like 3 years since academy shut down 3 months ago?
Seeing that on both the academy side and enroute side adds another 6 months from now.

Since enroute classes are starting over that means 3 months at the academy.

That means the 2 year average (in optimal times)+ (3 months academy again)+ 3 months current trainees at facilities are delayed + the potential bottleneck for training we will encounter+ low air traffic is 2.5 years minimum. It's not unreasonable to me that the second wave of COVID will cause shutdowns again or even more delays in training because of less air travel.


Every day we don't train doesn't delay by one day, it actually doubles it since we have trainees at facilities that will also serve as a bottleneck to get certified in sectors? Not to mention the people that are going to go to academy ahead of you. Please correct me if my reasoning is wrong,

I'm sure we have a few out there that can't and the FAA has programs in place to assist. I'll try to keep joking to a minimum. But lets be real, the guy that's going to make a big deal about this is the same guy that transferred to the facility because of a spouse, who is now an ex-spouse and routinely talks about hitting up the casino during his last rotation.

I mean, I don’t think it’s a terribly unfair question to ask. I believe a 1080p Zoom group call uses something like 2.5gb of data per hour. If people are forced to be on a call 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, that’s 160 gigs a month. What if somebody does a lot of 4K streaming or something and uses most of their internet package already? Should they be expected to pay the overage fees for sitting in on work mandated Zoom calls?

It's not that your reasoning is wrong, it's that in the FAA you are wrong to use reasoning. ;-)
You came up with an idea for how long training might last based on logic, I assure you your instructor came up with their idea with a random number generator in their brain.

My overall point, it sounded like you were attributing a level of credibility to the instructor as though he might know something others don't.
