Trump Proposes No Tax on Overtime

Yup. I’m not debating those facts. I’m just pointing out that a flat tax is a tax cut for rich people and a tax increase for poor people. Tons of retired people pay no income tax and y’all want to hit them with a huge sales tax. Make it make sense. Prolly the same people wanting this are saving to a ROTH tsp lol
Are you asking the MAGA types to think about second and third order effects? Sure, that’ll happen. 😂

I think you know I mean this in good faith, but honest to God, how? By no means am I an economic expert but I am interested in your perspective.

You pay a consumption tax on gas, food (in some places), basic necessities, etc...
The consumption tax on these basic necessities would represent a tax they are currently not paying while they do pay state sales taxes on these necessities in most states.

I mean what would your damages be?
Some butthurt ointment, maybe?

Again, good faith, can you be more specific? I do not understand how they would not pay, for example, the gas tax? The sales tax I understand.

They do pay that if they drive. But it’s still going to be a tax raise overall for these people. The gas tax needs to be redone anyways.

Why should I pay taxes on services that I do not use though, simply because I make more money and they do not? I see where you are coming from though, and agree that some services should be supported but a overhaul of a few things would not be bad.

Well it needs to be changed because it doesn’t account for electric cars. But I’m not really advocating for anything besides saying that a flat sales tax would impact poor people while giving a tax cut to rich people.

How about this. Cut the Federal budget. Make it illegal to have a budget which has a freaking Trillion dollar deficit from the get go.

If you don't pay any federal income tax, you must do some sort of community service. Clean up shit. Mow. Construction. Don't care. Contribute to the tax base instead of leach off of. Stop blaming the actual tax payers for shit that's wrong. Stop telling actual tax payers they need to pay more while 40%+ of the people pay NOTHING.

Or go full 'tard just make it so only those who pay taxes can vote. Don't pay federal taxes? No federal elections. Don't pay state or local, no state or local voting for you.

Taxation is theft.

I can speak to the electric cars, Model 3 myself, VA rapes me on personal property tax. 2022 model and I have to pay $900 in taxes, not to mention the registration that I almost pay triple in monies than if a petrol car were to drive the same mileage in taxes.

Personal Property Tax is fucking ridiculous. How many times you think that money has been taxed?

Yah that’s your state but the gas tax goes to like a federal road fund or something or at least the federal portion does. Basically funds like highways and major roads.

Looks like Virginia has a 9 cent per gallon gas tax. Are you taxed more than a gas car? We are talking about registration or something different?

Some states already account for you paying for less gas if you have a hybrid, or no gas if fully electric. They hike on additional fees when you pay the property taxes on those vehicles.

Additional fees when paying your vehicle property taxes for having a hybrid or fully electric. That’s how some states make up for you not paying as much in gas taxes.

Makes sense. Most of the gas tax is federal tho

I have a 22’ gas vehicle and paid just as much as GulfCharlie. I think VA, specifically northern VA, just loves to no lube (thanks diddy) ream ya every chance they can.

Everyone pays social security and Medicare taxes. So they are paying something.

I like this John Green quote a lot:
Public education does not exist for the benefit of students or the benefit of their parents. It exists for the benefit of the social order.

We have discovered as a species that it is useful to have an educated population. You do not need to be a student or have a child who is a student to benefit from public education. Every second of every day of your life, you benefit from public education.

So let me explain why I like to pay taxes for schools, even though I don't personally have a kid in school: It's because I don't like living in a country with a bunch of stupid people.

You should pay taxes on services that you don't use because you have the means and others do not.
You should pay taxes on services that you don't use because someday you might need those services and you want them to still be around then.
You should pay taxes on services that you don't use because you don't want to live in a country with a bunch of stupid people.

If you want to go be a hermit in the woods and never talk to anybody you're welcome to do that. The rest of us will stay over here in our civilization and support one another. We've been doing it since the time of cavemen and it seems to work pretty well.

Quotes are cool, A report from 2022 found that 29% of high school students in Baltimore City Public Schools tested at or above the proficient level. Baltimore spends between 16k and 22k per student a year.

We have every right to question these taxes when the service you claim benefit society are turning out stupid people at an astounding clip.

By no means do I want to be a hermit in the woods, and perhaps I should have expanded on the context of my views (forgive me as I was chowing down on some chicken with mashed potatoes). Basic services: schools (though personally I am a voucher supporter and I know that will open a whole new can of worms), police/fire/sewage/etc... are something I have no problem with. We need to have a baseline without a doubt. Termine

I understand that many consider a consumption (let us call it the EU VAT for shits and giggles 32andBelow) consider it regressive but saved income would not be taxed (personally many these days are frugal) but we could avoid the massive issues with income tax (ie... deductions/credits). I know in the end we will disagree, but many get raped every year while those the taxes are intended to target go unscathed.

32andBelow $327 for 2 year registration because it is a EV and the state is trying to make up for missing gas tax…only drove 8k miles at ~100 mpg. SO I effectively paid $1.41 gas tax per gallon. Current Virginia gas tax is 30.8 cents (https://ktla.com/news/nationworld/h...r fuels,Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.) . EV surcharge typically is based on driving 15,000 miles in an F-150.
