Where to file taxes/unemployment after academy?

Since the end of the year is nearing, for those that passed the academy, do you have to file state taxes while attending the academy? On the flip side that someone doesn’t make it, do they file for unemployment in their home state or with another state?

IIRC, the academy is technically under Washington DC, and since you are a non resident the taxes are fairly insignificant.

You file a Dca return but state you’re a non resident and obviously you would file unemployment with the state you live in…

The DC taxes are non-existent, although you have to file a form to get them paid back to you (whatever got withheld automatically while you were at MMAC). But the reason you were not a DC resident is because you were still a resident of your pre-MMAC state, and you need to pay those taxes. You aren't a resident of your new state until you move there after graduation.

In the same vein I should imagine that you file for unemployment with your pre-MMAC state, because—again—you never stopped being a resident of that state.

You file form D40-B and request a refund of the DC taxes you paid and then when you file, you file in your pre MMAC state like said above.
