Why do FAA facilities offer tours?

Who doesn't like giving tours? I dont mind taking some people around and pointing out a window for $70/hr. Who knows, that 20 year old kid you're showing around the cab could be the reason you can get spot leave next year.
My thoughts exactly(except I’m less than $35 but I well)... even that 15 yr old who was given the opportunity to see what we do will realized this is what he/she wants to do for a living. Everyone is nearsighted and grumpy...not really but a lot are...

Or he could be the supe that pulls you into the office for a PRC as you are walking out for your weekend!

I'm game to always give a tour, we have a Supe that takes most of them though. Dude is real passionate about the job and is an all around good guy. As an OTS with zero aviation experience I'm all game about teaching kids about the job, and I love talking with pilots since it gives me a good idea of their work on the other end of the pickle.

Then again I also pretty much recruit for the FAA pushing the OTS bid every year through Marine Corps groups.

I like how the sups get all butthurt and nervous when a tour is coming. its like the one time a quarter they want the circus to stop ?

I don't mind giving tours. It's a great way to share with others this job we love (most of us anyways). I sometimes find them irritating when its a group of kids who are just too cool to be excited (even though you had been informed that they were super stoked to be there) and stand there like lumps and maybe ask about the microwave. However it can be very rewarding when it is a group of interested people who ask questions, listen, and are excited by what they see. Last week we had a group of kids, and one of them I am pretty sure will be one of us in 10 years.

The only time I mind tours is when I have to give one on my break. I don't mind a quick escort thru the building to hand them off to the tour giver, but if I'm on break, I'm on break. My last facility was pretty bad about that. You'd have a supe or the atm hanging out in the office and a controller "on break" giving a tour.

Aside from that I think it's great outreach
