November (Q1) 2023

Well, I’m a rep at a center and I see the unnecessary strain this bullshit puts on younger controllers and their families so I guess I have a different perspective. As other people have pointed out not just a few of them are trying to get to lower levels. I could go on and on with stories but it seems like everyone is more about facility tribalism than solidarity so I’ll save it.
The Agency’s soulless placement process a morale cancer all over the NAS. They’re just trying to make the point that there’s hundreds to a few thousand members that are dealing with the same problem but get half the pay.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for people complaining about being stuck somewhere while being able to comfortably max their TSP. There's 3000/mo rents in tons of places where people are stuck making sub $100k and can't come close to maxing their TSP comfortably.
I don't have a lot of sympathy for people employed by the FAA and complaining about rent. There are starving children in Africa.

Take those same families and instead of being stuck at ZOA, they’re at PAO/ASE/ACK or any other low level in the same/similar COL areas and maybe you see the point. Sucks to be stuck somewhere you don’t want to be in general, but making $140+ eases some of the stress a little more than $80-100. Also, at least at 15 years the people stuck at a 10-12 can utilize the contract to go somewhere else.
Bottom of CPC pay for PAO is $104k with an average training time of 1.27 years. Waiting for a D-side class at ZOA is nearly a year and a half wait time from what I hear. then you have to get 2? d-sides to get to D1 to hit $90k. Raises come quicker in a tower only so trainees with families are screwed Longer than one in the tower. Also, millions of people with families in the Bay are making it by on less. You won’t be able to ball out but you won’t be struggling.

Native of the bay area here, it might surprise you to hear the cost of living on the peninsula (PAO) compared to east bay (ZOA) is larger than the difference between ZOA and bumfuck nowhere. I know people at both facilities and there is absolutely no argument to be made that ZOA has it worse.

That’s true but you also don’t have to live on the peninsula. It sucks to be at a low level tower in a HCOL area, I know, so I commuted from a “lower” COL area.

You were supposed to come here  Then I'd be getting my shit pushed in at a 12 somewhere and going home to cry into a pile of cash

I had the paper work in but the 12 I’m at needed the bodies much more. Lol you’ll have your turn so hopefully.

How does it work if there was a CPC that became a temp supe who’s now going to take a permanent position? Can that affect release dates of NCEPT pickups or is it a different process?

It won’t affect the releases of already-offered pickups. It may, however, influence how soon your ATM wants to let you go.
