Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-22-ATCEXP-80642

Any tower certifications? Or just radar?

If just radar then maybe you guys are in your own little boat while the rest of us will get the lists of facilities

Just got a call with an offer for JCF. Haven't gotten a list yet but curious if anyone had any thoughts on the facility? He said it'd be the only level 8 I'd be offered since I'm cleared for up to 7, but I'm not sure if I'd enjoy living in California. Hoping this means list coming soon?
If you are also Air Force, ask co-workers or past controller you know about Edwards and see if they can help put you in contact with someone familiar with the facility/area. I only knew 1-2 that have been there. It’s California so it’s expensive AF, but a level 8 out the gate is pretty damn rare.

I was a tower controller at Edwards when I was active duty and I know a little about JCF. During the day, the military radar unit SPORT has control of one chunk of JCFs airspace. From what I understand, they have a pretty good gig? Obviously my word doesn't mean much being a tower guy but from what I saw while I worked there, it seemed pretty chill?

SPORT has their own airspace. JCF controls the entirety of the R2508 plus SPORTs airspace when sport closes. They also have another sector called antelope with approaches into Palmdale.

I seem to recall a USAJOBS bid a while back trying to solicit former CPC’s to return to JCF. Combine that with the fact it’s being offered not in conjunction with a regular list and I’d be pretty skeptical. FAA is gonna FAA. Wherever and whenever they really need bodies someplace seems like they’ll “fast track” you there. Similar to Alaska and other places on previous bids. Just food for thought.

If you don’t want to go there, don’t be afraid to ask for list. You’ve passed all your clearances. They’re not going to tell you you can’t have a job because you won’t go to JCF.

Does anyone know if there’s any way to see what our military facility is the equivalent of on a level scale? Just curious, now that I’m finish up the process this week, what my experience might do for me. I’m at NUW if that helps.

As of today's numbers, JCF is currently 50% staffed (12/24 cpcs) and projected 71.2% staffing with 7 trainees. That's why they're offering it to you guys. For reference, they had 16 CPCs on the 11/23 update so they lost 4 CPCs in a little over a month.

There is a resource for that specifically on this site. I’ve seen some NUWs get offered some consolidated tracons in the past. Other than that it usually seemed to be level 7 and below stuff. Unless you got like 5 cto’s and multiple approach ratings you’ll prob just get a 7 or below.

Yes SPORT is raping JCFs CPCs. And who can blame the CPCs. Same pay for waaaay less work

Ditto what aaron2johnson said. Anything over a 7 is rare. Sometime you may get lucky and get an 8. The only prior military I’ve seen get level 9s is prior Air Force working eglin approach or something similar

We had one prior NUW controller get offered a few level 9s, TRACONS, P80 being one, so I’ll just hope for the best. I wish I was more picky but I don’t even really care at this point - it’s mostly just curiosity honestly. I just want to be on the other side of this!

Not too familiar with NUW. You might be at a good facility then, GL!

“mOsT cOmPLeX FaCiLiTy iN tHe NaVy” which is an evals way of saying “we’re sandwiched between Seattle and Vancouver/Victoria and neither like us or our jets very much”.

Thanks, you too!
