Hiring Bid Experienced bid: FAA-ATO-16-ATC-EXP-49432

Anybody know if the experienced bid folks are counted as part of that 1500 or so the FAA plans to hire this year or is that strictly meant for the ots bid(s)?

It's not broken out, the 1800ish is total onboards for the year.

Haven't gotten to update it recently, but you can get a better look at the numbers with this Projected Hiring

What MJ said and: From what I have seen though, it seems like there will be close to 1500 OTS folks, in addition to 300+ prior experience. There are roughly 100 classes scheduled at the academy for the next year @ 18 people a class, that's ~1800. On top of that, prior experience seem to be straight to the facility (haven't heard of any priors going to the academy lately).

I think if they hired 1500 OTS guys in 1 year I'd prob never fly again..

Only about 72% of those folks will pass the academy, so ~ 1300 people. If 70% of them check out, your looking at only ~900 OTS folks. You liking your odds yet?

For the prior experience bid. Let's say a trainee was at an up/down last year. Made it through the tower portion, completed approach control training at the academy but of didn't get facility rated. Didn't get an extension after his 2nd TRB so training was stopped. That controller name was sent to the NEST program. Let's say that controller resigned before the results of the NEST came out. That control is now 32. Would that controller be eligible for the prior bid although he didn't reach full CPC status. Also that controller is working overseas with Midwest ,so is still actively working traffic.

You need 52 weeks of being certified. If you meet that then you are eligible.

This is straight from the bid . . .

"THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS FOR CANDIDATES WHO HAVE MAINTAINED AT LEAST 52 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS OF AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL EXPERIENCE INVOLVING THE FULL-TIME ACTIVE SEPARATION OF AIR TRAFFIC AFTER RECEIPT OF AN ATC CERTIFICATION OR FACILITY RATING WITHIN 5 YEARS OF APPLICATION WHILE SERVING AT:

  • a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control facility; OR
  • a civilian or military air traffic control facility of the Department of Defense; OR
  • a tower operating under contract with the FAA under section 47124"

It looks like some people are getting TOL's for this bid based on what is being posted on the other site. Anyone on here get one? I just checked my e-mail and didn't receive anything yet.

A buddy of mine called hr... they're only sending out emails to people who also applied to the OTS opening. Don't expect anything today if you only applied to this opening

Guess they're hoping those people will turn down the ots bid? Seems odd as to why they would send them tols just bc they applied to both exclusively.

So they don't waste resources on them with the ots hiring process, would be my guess if it's true

I would definitely turn down the OTS bid if offered a TOL to the prior experience bid. It doesn't make sense to go through the hiring process for the OTS announcement, take the AT-SA, and then go to the academy to re-learn the basics. However, if I got offered an up/down I would more than likely have to attend the radar course in OKC when the time came.

First, I'm 99.99% sure your ots gets cancelled if you get picked for the experienced opening. Secondly, if you were offered the choice... you're right that it makes absolutely zero sense to choose ots over the experienced.

If it gets cancelled automatically then that makes things even easier. God knows that they would cancel the wrong one if I had to request it.

The chance at being assigned to enroute would be a reason to go ots.

The chance at being assigned to enroute would be a reason to go ots.

A stupid reason.

Edit: to clarify, you have to be stupid to not skip the ATSA, not skip the academy for a "chance" to go enroute.

Edit #2: I take it back!! If you have the option you should go OTS!!!... maybe that'll speed the process up for the experienced opening :)
