Just Lost the Biggest Opportunity of My Life

Just want to know what my options are. I was doing very well in basics but ran out of time on the final test. I made one mistake and now it’s all over. What can I possibly do?
Go into the navy or air force for atc and reapply later under prior exp

Trust me you aren’t missing out on anything. This job is not as amazing as people said it was. And the pay isn’t even worth it when you are sacrificing so much more of yourself for this job. Schedule sucks, everyone works 6 days a week, hours suck, people suck, and you only get 50% of your money after deductions, example you make 100k a year, take home is only 50k. Everyone that I know from academy have either quit or thinking about quitting. Toxic work environments, and so many more cons about the job. I would recommend a completely different career field. I wouldn’t even wish this job on my worst enemy. That’s my opinion on it. So you are blessed you did not pass that test.

If you want to stay in aviation, go to school and be a flight dispatcher. No need for a medical. Full flight benefits. Potential for remote work. Easier to transfer to where you want to live.

Air traffic control isn't for you. Even if you could over time build the skills to do the job, it is largely dependent on making confident decisions in a short period of time. People who struggle with analysis paralysis wash out on live traffic because they spend time thinking when they should be talking. Some people with this personality type eventually check out but most never make good controllers.

It sucks to end that way but to be honest if you can’t finish the basics test then ATC would have been mental torture. You’ll find something else you love maybe even aviation related. Try and look at it as destiny rather than a failure and be thankful it didn’t take up too much of your life. We’ve all seen people that absolutely destroy themselves trying to certify that simply can’t do the job and it’s hard to watch.

I mean this in the most respectful way possible but if you couldn’t focus on the time remaining and answering the questions then I don’t think this career is for you boss. You have to focus on way more than two things happening at once the things you mentioned are quite possibly the easiest parts of the job.

I’m with everyone else. It’s time to move forward. This current setback is just a brief chapter in your life story. Don’t let this temporary hiccup dictate your future. You’re still young, even if it doesn’t always feel that way. Avoid comparing yourself to your successful friends and remind yourself that everyone’s journey to success is unique. ATC isn’t a panacea. People at parties might think it’s impressive, the reality is that the job often brings more stress than satisfaction. Countless stories of people we work with in their 40s miss out on holidays, family events, and face significant work-life balance issues, leading to strained relationships and personal sacrifices. Just read these posts. People here are miserable. Focus on finding a path that brings you both fulfillment and balance. You’ll be fine. Move on. Godspeed.

Remember that Ice_Cold guy from StuckMic? Did he not fail basics or was it the eval? I feel like he was in the first class after the sequester.
Remember Swintee from JetCareers? He was the original post 250 times a day, put my hiring timeline in my signature, class President and tutor up and comer who ended up washing out in OKC.

This USED to be the greatest opportunity of your life. Don’t worry, as a current controller you didn’t miss out on anything. If it’s possible for you, go to the airlines or get another job.

Plenty of desk jobs work 4 days in the office 1 day home and make 150k+ (more than some CPCs).

A lot of FAA jobs as well. TERPS for example (1 day in office 4 at home).
