Facility Morale shutdown

My point is: save your cash, invest in income generating or appreciating assets. Contribute as much as possible to every tax-advantaged account. Marry a thrifty Asian woman who also works. And get a lvl 12 Z close to home and live with the parents until you check out (this was a toss up in prior years, but is MUCH more achievable nowadays with the new placement rules).

Yes, we are underpaid although I don't feel it quite as much at this point in my career. Honestly I'm more pissed about that our area is paid the same as the fat-staffed area across the hall doing easy light traffic with thicc juicy breaks and actual leave available.

You could double our wages (I wouldn't complain) and half the Z would still be financially strained based on the stupid shit I see on a daily basis.
You're forgetting the part where 20 years ago controllers that got in have to contribute significantly less to their pension and the salary in relation to purchasing power was far higher than it is now.

Obviously living within your means and being smart with your money is a good strategy, but I could do that on 50k a year too. What this career is supposed to provide and should provide is far greater than what it is currently providing.

Controllers that only have a few years in are currently struggling massively under normal conditions and then you through in missing 96+ hrs of pay and a lot will have trouble making rent or paying credit cards. This job is literally driving people into credit card debt rn and our union doesn't care.

Oh wow. I thought everything you were saying until this point was satire, but im now realizing you're just a douche. Ill let the 7 trainees here that bring home 1700$ every two weeks in an area where rent is more than that to diversify, live with their parents, get started at a 12, etc.

I agree that about 1/3rd of the people ive come across in this career field are financially illiterate.
Another 1/3rd just struggle because of personal hardships, pay not keeping up, medical issues, etc. Imagine walking up to my coworker who has been financially drained of nearly 140k in the last few years battling his kid's cancer and saying something that pompous.

Can you point me in the direction of thrifty Asian women

Within a 3 mile radius of any military base, usually to be found in dry cleaners or salons. Specifically Korean and Filipino women.

I think

That changed recently. The new limit is a 400 million dollar 747.

He just wanted to bob on his own micro knob to feel sanctimonious and superior, has nothing to do with helping anyone

Yeah it’s real simple. Get hired in your hometown as a new hire at a level 12. Pass a map test and say point out approved, make level 8 pay 3 months later as a D side. It’s two different worlds and you got it good.

You have never had and never will have friends or anything meaningful in life. Its rather sad reading the desperate reach for some gratification in your text bro. No one cares how great you think you are. Take a look around. They're not laughing WITH you..... damn that was disappointing to read that people like this exsist....

I get an extreme level of satisfaction finding boomers who have a 10-15 year head start on me with a much lower net worth. You're almost certainly one of them. The salary ATC pays today offers zero chance to accumulate wealth like we've been able to because it's been so stagnant. Your advice won't work in today's environment unless pay catches up.

Morale where I work is a tale of two separate groups. Old people like you largely don't understand how much inflation has occurred and measure the salary they make today in nominal terms of what money was worth in the 90s or 2000s and think they're doing spectacular, when in reality they're just comfortable. New controllers understand how much trouble they're in as soon as they explore buying a house and starting a family on what ATC pays today and have awful attitudes. I can't really blame them for having such low morale or the effect that it collectively has on the rest of the building.

Not to be a dick but how did he end up paying 140K over the last few years when the highest out of pocket maximums for the federal healthcare plans are at most 15-20K a year?

Meh, I've got a paid off house/cars, rental property income, $150k cash emergency fund, and at least $500/month dividends from my portfolio. I can ride this out a long time. Getting close to retiring.

Complaining about 1.5-2 hours on position at your level 4 tinkertoy tower? Shit's normal in understaffed areas of most Zs, which usually happen to have the busiest and/or most complicated traffic.

Damn dude youre so cool, I bet everyone loves you.

Not everything is covered by insurance (e.g. experimental treatments and medications). Certain types of pediatric cancer are best treated at facilities far from home, and travel/hotel costs add up quickly if you're going several times a month. There are also indirect costs as well, like one parent quitting their job or switching to part-time so they have more time/energy to care for their child.
