Scale of 1-10, how hard?

OKC doesn't play by real world rules. It's OKC rules and OKC rules only. I remember a guy in my class that constantly liked to talk about how ZNY does it such and such way. I remember our instructor eventually told him, "Well, this is the Aero Center way and if you don't learn the Aero Center way then there won't be a ZNY later on." He learned that lesson the hard way.

So I've heard this said by a couple people now, and it kinda baffles me. Can you give any examples of the kinds of things that you wouldn't be able to do at OKC that you could at a facility?

Yah this don’t even think about climbing that blue angel above some flight south of MCB that you have a strip on.
Getting written up for an A1 because you cleared a guy off the ground to 4,000 but some plane, 30 minutes away, 200 miles away, 5 sectors over is at 4,000.

Getting an A1 because you released control of an aircraft to an adjacent sector.... but didn’t reference the MOA that is located in their airspace only..

That’s kind of like a sup failing someone on a skill check because another controller initiated a point out and they didn’t reference that controllers traffic back to them, 60 miles away

I played video games most of the time instead of studying. After the map and non-radar, the only things you really needed to know ere the LOAs. and those were pretty basic. You can't really study radar.

yeah i maybe studied a total of 2 hours while i was there. everything came so natural and easy to me and i loved every second of it. went into radar evals with a 93%...then boom got hit with one of the new radar evals and got wrecked by it :((((((

Many of you mentioned that you need good short term memory and be good with numbers, do you mind providing examples with what you need to remember throughout the sims? For example, I assume some of the things that you need to keep in your head are the altitudes and headings of planes in your sectors, is there anything else that you constantly need to mentally keep track of?

@mvyorkie009 did you end up passing?

In Oklahoma, especially in Radar, you’ll see scenarios where a task will have to be done for an aircraft but it can only be done within a specific timeframe. I know that’s vague, but there are tasks you can only do within a certain distance of a sector boundary, or it has to be done prior to the plane entering your airspace, or while the plane is in your airspace, etc. That’s where the short-term memory comes in at the academy

sadly no. i lost my dream job. new eval had 12 things that were happening at the same time; 8 being priorities, was a few seconds late getting them done. my class and instructors were extremely shocked that i did not make it, even the evaluators were shocked. at no point during the whole training did i think anything was hard. i had amazing instructors one of them had to resign due to medical problems and that was a big loss for our class. i had 31.69 of 34 points going into the first radar eval. i loved every second of being out there and would of loved to help my country every day and keep people safe, but i blew it. just happened that the one sim i messed up was the one that needed to not be messed up.

wish that instead of them just dumping you, you could get recycled or retrained on the part you messed up on. only thought 3 sims leading up to evals were busy at 12k, 12l, 12m; everything else went great. my first radar eval was the only thing i messed up on while out there...might as well of sat there blind folded.

Yeah that Blue Angel flight is so incredibly unrealistic

Also getting deducted points for having the previous sector move an ACFT because he has traffic in your sector and the evaluator making a judgement call that you could have waited until he was in your sector to tell the radar to fix it. Complete garbage.

What about when they call asking for control for lower and you have to save your control to FLXXX so they miss the MOA that is located in THEIR SECTOR
