Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

I have a couple of questions, for the medical portion of the CIL process. I am a prior vet with a 70% disability rating and before I separated from the Navy I personally made a copy of my full medical record and kept my original full breakdown paperwork for my disability rating. Is that going to satisfy the needs of the flight doc when I'm being screened for the FAA or do I need to contact the VA to have them send a sealed copy of my medical records somewhere?
Second question is that part of my disability is "unspecified anxiety disorder (also claimed as sleep disturbances)". Is that medical diagnosis disqualifying?
Other important information to note is that I do not take, nor have I been prescribed any medication for this disability.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I’m in the same boat. 90% combined, 50% for cognitive disfunction diagnosed as anxiety (in lieu of PTSD because I work armed security now)

Gonna be super bummed if that’s a disqualifier. I don’t take any meds or receive any treatment for it, so hopefully they’ll understand that it’s just a normal thing for combat vets. Fingers crossed.

Yea same here. Being that those are fourloughed FAA employees, we’ll have to wait and see if the government shuts down or not.
I was able to schedule mine for tomorrow morning, but I'm the southeast.

I've got 50% total, with 30% of that for PTSD. I take zero meds, nor have I ever see a shrink, just deal with it on my own. You're not alone bud.

Based off the recent activity in this thread, it appears we have a good amount of 10pt Vets in here, thanks to all of you for your Service and sacrifices! With that being said, I wanted to post the link to the Veterans - FAQ guide, since we qualify for additional "benefits" such as military buyback, larger leave accruals and the GI Bill OJT payments while working towards your CPC. Most of you may have known but if others don't, here you go.

Going to ask a stupid question. The CIL states that all of the employee clearance steps must be completed within 90 days of the date of the CIL. There are no more steps correct? Once I take the MMPI, medical, drug test, and security there aren’t any other steps?

Yea last step is to hurry up and wait

Just to make this clear - while the security and medical appointments are handled by people who specialize in that, the MMPI is just administered by some admin guy at your local facility who may only do one or two of them a year, if that. When you filled out your TOL, the facility you listed as your nearest FAA facility will be the place you take the MMPI, and the person administering it may just be a secretary who works there, or even a controller on admin duties or something. If you live in a less-populated area, you may be the only person your POC has on his list, and that person has pretty unlimited discretion in when to schedule it and such. So don't get mad or upset if your POC isn't able to do it right away, or wants to wait until after the shutdown, or whatnot.

Correct. You just have to have everything submitted by that time, but it's possible and even likely that you'll still be waiting on clearances when the 90 day window ends.

I called to schedule my MMPI and got a voicemail saying they are out of the office due to a lack of funding. Hopefully they just forgot to change their voicemail...

Thank you sir. What the heck is buyback?

If you have active duty time you can make a one time payment of 3% of your military pay to have that active duty time added to your federal service.

Example: You serve 8 years AD and then decide not to re-up, you can pay the 3% and have 8 years of credit added to your FERS retirement. Meaning you can do 20 years ATC and then retire as normal but your pension will be figured at 28 years of service (20 ATC + 8 AD). Calculator below so you can estimate your cost.

Edit: If the calculator doesn't work, the quick math is all your military "base pay" earnings x 0.03%.

When you get hired, they should have a specialist in HR that will take your DD-214 and adjust your SCD and they may go over the buyback option with you.

Question about fingerprints...the form says the following:

"If you have your fingerprints taken digitally, please ensure the agency can print them on card stock paper."

What is card stock paper? Does this mean the fingerprint form the FAA provided is no good if you do the electronic method?

Cardstock is a thicker paper

When they say "Your Pre-Employment Interview Worksheet must be signed, dated and returned to this office at a minimum of 10 days prior to your scheduled Appointment Date."

Do you think they mean calendar or business days?

To be safe I went with business days but was wondering what others thought.
