It's funny that you guys are so worried about your TSP. We won't be transacting in USD by the time you retire and any dollars you manage to accumulate in your TSP will be worthless by the time you can get your hands on them anyways so what's the point of stressing?
I’ll be happy to take some of those pesky USDs off your hands if they’re so worthless. Got CashApp?

I don’t know what either of those are either, is this like a New England thing
Ryan’s is south. Hometown Kinda all over and old country north east and Midwest I think

No thanks, I'd rather just convert them into something that will retain value in the future while I still can. Thanks for the generous offer though. You guys can laugh all you want but go ahead and ignore the warnings of an internet stranger at your own peril.

Hate to break it to you but gold/silver isn’t actually worth anything either. All currency is just an idea

They're conductive metals, they have some intrinsic value. But yeah, putting everything in gold and expecting it to be useful in the apocalypse is a little far-fetched.

What commodities do u speak of that you believe will retain value? Real Estate? Precious Metals? Bitcoin? Ammunition?

I personally like precious metals. I think real estate in the short term is about to get very cheap as unemployment increases, bankruptcies/foreclosures follow, and supply greatly outweighs demand. Not to mention the WFH movement allowing people to move away from the crime ridden cities since they won't have to commute to work, further crushing demand. Cryptocurrencies are all ponzi schemes. To quote my dude Ben Rickert from The Big Short, "seeds will be the new currency." I think ammo falls right in line with seeds.

How do precious metal have any value? It doesn’t any more than paper. That and real estate only have value when you convert them back into dollars

Lot of cheap real estate indeed, but who the hell would want to live in these lawless areas where the police have been effectively destroyed for a generation. I am sad that Seattle has turned into a shithole. Same for Minneapolis. 2 cities I have enjoyed, never to return.

Precious metals have value as signs of wealth and have since ancient times. It is a rare thing and thus will always be a from of currency-The apocalypse isn't going to be some wakling dead episode, the rich are going to have huge camps with indentured servants. They have already purchased huge amounts of land in new zealand and alaska and even discussions about shock collars and stuff have taken place. Think feudal europe with more technology. Glad I finally got to plug the conspiracies, can't wait til someone mentions denver airport

Precious metals have been money for thousands of years. They actually have real utility as well. They have scarcity, as central banks can't print an unlimited amount of them. Gold can is accepted/convertible worldwide in to any currency. USD, or more broadly fiat money in general, is simply a means to assign value of things. The only reason Americans have a high standard of living is because we have the world's reserve currency. The world wants our dollars. We give them dollars created out of thin in exchange for real tangible goods. We consume way more than we produce, hence the huge trade deficits and debts we've accumulated. What the U.S. is doing is so unsustainable, it's unfathomable that we have gotten away with it for so long. But the gravy train is going to come to an end soon. We are about to learn a very hard lesson that we can't just print our way to prosperity. I could literally go on for hours explaining the economics of it all and how it all relates but at the end of the day, I'm not going to change your mind.

Hahahaha there's a real good chance I'm younger than you. Idk why you're hating, you're probably going to be a beneficiary in the short term here. When all of the shale producers go belly up because they have a fuck ton of debt and can't make any money at $40 crude, Midland is going to turn into a ghost town and your rent will become so affordable that you won't have to come on here and bitch about how hard it is to live on trainee pay down there.

I don't really fully disagree with you, but 2 things. 1) wrong thread. 2) this has been going on for decades. I don't see something magical happening that punishes the US for printing out fun dollars. And if it does, then I'm interested to see what happens.

Yes, this thread def got derailed. Maybe a mod can move us over to the shit shooting thread.

There isn't going to be anything magical about what is going to take place. Long story short is that the laws of economics cannot be defied forever, no matter how powerful the Fed thinks it is. The dominos in the chain have started to fall. Like I said, I could go on for hours trying to explain it all. But I have many years worth of knowledge and studying that would take way too much time and effort to condense and disseminate on an internet forum where no one would actually care.
