This actually happened to me lol. But I had one of those car warranty things that actually paid it off, I have no idea how they didnt try to scam me but it worked.

How can someone not find a roommate? I've lived in 5 different places across the country and had Craigslist roommates at all of them. Yes, you can find a way to put $100 a paycheck into savings making minimum wage. I was able to do it paying student loans off. It requires cutting in other places but I had a car on top of that.

People with families? Asking people to live with people off craigslist is a sign our country has failed people

I’m saying it’s expensive to be poor. That people making more than minimum wage can lease a Corolla and not have these huge maintenance bills. Someone on minimum wage has to get a clapped out car and winds up spending the little money they have keeping it running. It’s impossible to get ahead when your just scraping by.

That’s not what I meant.

I mean like we (gov employees) can buy a new car for a small percentage of our salary and not have to worry about big maintenance. They can only buy a beater and then wind up spending a big percentage of their salary maintaining said beater. So if they made more money they’d be able to get ahead in so many different ways.

Do they? My first 3 jobs offered 401k benefits but that wasn’t something that was ever brought up. I didn’t learn that shit for years. 401k’s aren’t advertised like salary/pay is. Sure McDonald’s offers 401k’s to all employees but you really think this is something that’s routine when onboarding a new employee

It’s really expensive to drive a beater when your poor. It’s much cheaper for us to drive a brand new Jeep under warranty than for a poor person to drive a beater that breaks every other month
