Academy Post-COVID

I opted to wait because the pay was too low and they specifically told me I couldn't work a second job to make up for the difference. I called my HR rep the other day and they told me the rules have changed and now its acceptable to work a second job so long as it doesn't conflict with your zoom schedule. I asked her could I opted back in then since that was what made me decide not to take virtual classes in the first place. She said no and that they also have no plans for those who opted out at the moment.

As a side note she also said that they now have quite a few people who have opted to wait.

Wow...it makes no sense that we can't opt back in. I wouldve opted in in a heartbeat if they said we could've worked an extra job and wouldn't get first priority back into Academy.

What day was that?

Right now I have a tentative academy date for December. I know things change all the time, but I don't see why they would tell me to report less than a week before
This was back in July. My 9 month stretch of the academy is thankfully over.

I think the only people that ever believed people who opted out would get priority to return to the Academy is the people who opted out.

I honestly believe each HR rep just had a large pile or files with their applicants and processes them in whatever random order they want. Doubtful they even remember the names of the people they've communicated with unless you're calling weekly, and then they're probably annoyed with you.

I was gonna say this, if you think opting out didn't put you at the bottom of a pile somewhere then you must have a lot of peachy thoughts anyway.

Ive been saying this since the beginning.

Almost everybody who’s been through it said to take the online and get a second job, but they didn’t listen. ?‍♂️

The main reason zoom people are progressing is because they’ve finished basics. There is obviously no plan for in person basics at any time soon.

Can’t go to option specific training when you haven’t passed the wonderful basics course first.

Honestly it's hard to listen to random people on the internet and ignore the advice and rules of the official sources.

FAA Order 3750.7B Appendix E. Doesn’t get more official than that. Outside employment is absolutely allowed. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Then why even bother asking on such said place? Sources were provided for what we all said but the source was ignored ?‍♂️
Also, not to say all information said here is correct 100% of the time, but for the post part, these aren’t just “random people on the internet” but people who have worked for the agency for years. ?

I think y'all are mistaking what I'm saying. I was not aware that anyone who stated anything about waiting or accepting the job were people who were working for the agency. Most of what I saw appeared to have been speculation from people going through the hiring process like myself. As a newbie to all of this I was under the impression that the HR people we deal with during the hiring process are well versed in what they are doing. I would have thought that they would know more about the hiring process than the applicants like myself, and thus I should be able to trust what they tell me. Obviously now from experience I've learned that that is not the case. You guys who said that have been proven right , and definitely seem to know more about how the agency runs than the agency itself lol.

Has anyone ever stayed in Bricktown for housing while at the Academy? Could you tell me if you had a good experience with the commute and all (environment, getting groceries, etc.)?

Otherwise, could any academy alums weigh in on whether a daily commute to/from Bricktown would be difficult to handle, in your opinion?

The hotels just seem nicer in that area, and since the government rate is all the same now, if it's not a huge difference to be a few minutes closer, I don't see other cons. ? Is there something I'm missing, not having actually been there?

Parking is going to be your issue.

Parking is going to be your issue.
Thanks for the response! Apparently some hotels do have an parking lot. Not sure if the concern was a lack of indoor parking space (in the event of bad weather), though? That could be something. The place I was looking at has an outdoor lot.
