Kadena is where it's at. Several years back when was applying I know I could have made it there.
Anyway, do you have Veteran's Preference or are you a wife? I tried for years to get a DoD job in Japan and found out the truth. If you aren't one or the other you will never have a chance at a high demand facility and everything in Japan is high demand...because Japan. I'm 100% for Veteran's Preference but it still sucks to get passed over.
One can get DoD jobs in less desirable areas. I could have went to Kwajalein Atoll but...it's a trap. Don't get stuck in the most remote island in the world!
If you take one of those you MIGHT have a chance at a good spot later, but they will send you back to the US after a few years and you have get eligible for overseas again.
That Army helicopter base just outside of Tokyo would be so dope. A few helipads and a 1500' runway lol. My T&G runway is double that, so there isn't much going on. I'm old now so I need a chill facility, heh. If you get picked up I heard you can make a request for save pay and it usually gets approved, even at a small place like that. I think they just have 2 controllers and a supe there so spots don't come up often.
Maybe I'm wrong on some of this but I've been given the info from several military and DoD controllers from all the branches. All BS aside, GL on your search and I pray you really get something.
