Any Questions feel free to PM me about them, I'll post positives /negatives later. Keep in mind we are 30% on the 2023 SSR table and awaiting the 10% SSR Raise. I do suspect this job announcement is incorrect because it lists the position of GS-11, I know the ATCFO wanted a strictly tower civilian but every posting (usually) has the promotion potential to GS-12 so this might be a HR mistake.

There is also ATC Premium pay with is an additional $150, and on base housing available to DoD civilians with a 3 bed/2bath going at 1850 (significantly cheaper than off base housing options, prior to obtaining my unit I was renting a 1 bed/bath at $2250). The CURRENT WAIT TIME IS 2 YEARS FOR A HOUSE

When I took this job a two years ago, they offered me a $15,000 relocation incentive so if selected, make sure to ask. One guy here didn’t think to ask so he is stuck with nothing, two new hires did and they received 60k for 4 years.

Facility is open 0700-2200, closed federal holidays for now (ZMA is pissed off at us for having to work traffic)

Work schedule is M-F, my shift is 0630-1430 (2 slots) other shifts are: 0800-1600, 0900-1700, 1000-1800, 1400-2200. Civilians do not work weekends or federal holidays.

There is spot leave, unless a massive COVID hit occur, it is always approved.

Approach is where to earn you money, expect to train on that first if you get selected, I certified in 3 1/2 weeks on approach.

We do have a PAR, experience with it is highly desired.

Typical of Florida our busy season is in the winter with annual SFARPS (Strike Fighter Advanced Readiness Program) a few times a year.

Roughly 3.5, hours to Miami depending on traffic.

They are in the planning stages for a Class Charlie and are preparing to split approach into 2/3 sectors (Currently on Hold).

EYW controllers are… interesting to work with...

ZMA MTH sector for the most part is decent (I love you WM) but it has its moments.

ATCFO is a good guy who does his best to help the civilians, we have our own break room with our own TV /couches. I did try to bring NATCA in but two of the civilians voted it down for “reasons.”

If you are coming from a higher level you can see if DOD will match your pay, there’s a pub somewhere I’ll have to look for it.

What would you rate this position on 1-Scam
An excellent scam, the schedule alone was perfect for me. However island life being island life it got old after a while. There was not much to do once you have done "everything" the island offers except drink and the drive to Miami got old quick.

It’s why I had to turn down the job when I got picked up a year ago. They failed to mention it until the last frickin second.
Please this, 100% this, I cannot stress this enough.

Gulf Charlie helped me out a ton! For anyone applying, PLEASE message him. He’s a damn saint.
