2 Jets collide at HOU. What happened?

So not only did the crew take off without a clearance, their V speeds cleared out, they had a pitch trim issue and a rudder bias issue. Instead of saying “hey, we need a minute to resolve some issues” they decided to troubleshoot on takeoff roll? That’s the best time to be heads down in an airplane… definitely not a critical phase of flight…

edit—but "HOLD POSITION" is also good phraseology, albeit from the "Taxi and Ground Movement Procedures" section. And in this case there was no takeoff clearance to be canceled...

No one owes HOU controllers an apology. When unusual circumstances happen you can either rise to the occasion and become a hero, or be exposed as mediocre or worse. The system is very loose right now w the short staffing, terrible controllers, covid checkouts, lack of safety culture, etc. The quality of ATC at HOU is objectively not good. The collision wasn't their fault, but they also didnt stop it. I've seen many many many near collisions the last few years that were ONLY stopped because the pilots situational awareness. Would have been nice if HOU could have returned the favor.

Too bad you weren't there to teleport to the cockpit and hit the brakes

HOU is full of washouts and its self evident. You aren't even able to comprehend how pathetic you sound simping for an actual mid-air. Just file an ATSAP and laugh it off, right? AS long as their is plausible deniability then who cares! stupid pilots!

The guy didn't do anything wrong, we get that you would have used your telekinesis to separate the aircraft, but the rest of us only have the radio. If the aircraft repeatedly ignore us, there's literally nothing else we can do. Why do you enjoy bashing everyone so much? You literally only come on here to trash people. We understand nobody at your facility respects you, but that's not our fault. We understand that your family has to apologize about you before you meet their friends, but there's nothing we can do to help lessen their embarrassment or yours.

No amount of posting about how much better you are and how everyone else is a washout that deserves to get fired will change that. Your comment score will never change your personality unfortunately :( sorry for hurting your feelings with the truth top5fatsnowflake :(

Not sure how most people feel about this, but even if you are 100% certain you never issued a takeoff clearance, I still feel "Cancel takeoff clearance" is the best line to drop here. A pilot who is rolling without a takeoff clearance obviously for some reason thinks he received one, whether it be similar callsigns or they're just confused. Saying "cancel takeoff clearance" gives you the best odds to grab his attention because every pilot hears that and thinks "oh shit" and if you're the guy who's rolling, you're probably more likely to respond.

As others have said, he may have been confused with his own callsign (flying multiple a/c maybe?) so when he just hears "stop, hold position" he could be thinking that was for someone else. A "cancel takeoff clearance" would have been much more effective in getting his attention.
