Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-16-ALLSRCE-49075 Bid

Has anyone heard if they are planning on hiring a second round of pool 1 applicants? It seems weird to start on pool 2 when they hadn't selected everyone from pool 1?
I would assume so. I doubt they'll cut off the rest of Pool 1 so soon. At least I hope there's more going out at some point it would suck to have to do all this again.

Can anyone explain what happens at the MMPI-2 .....I'm a little nervous appointments tomorrow
From what I recall (this was 5 years ago) it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-400 questions. In reality it's like 60 questions asked 5 to 6 times just phrased differently. If you answer honestly and it all lines up you should be fine. If try to answer with what you think they're looking for and those 5-6 'same questions are answered differently, you'll most likely go to a Tier 2 evaluation.

Here's an example...
True of False
1. I wake up each morning feeling fresh and rested
2. I am easily awakened by noise
3. I have nightmares every few nights
4. I have had periods of days, weeks, or months when I couldn’t take care of things because I couldn’t “get going”
5. My sleep is fitful and disturbed

They're all easy questions to answer honestly but you can see how those 5 are interconnected.

Great and helpful example !!!!! Thanks

Those are far too normal to be actual test questions. Think more along the lines of "would you rather paint a flower or a bat?"

You shouldn't spend much more than ten seconds per question. If you are, you are over thinking it and will likely get flagged.

Those were verbatim test questions. How long you take to answer doesn't effect how they score the exam.

Do TOL go out in batches? Or are they sending out a few every day? I noticed that at first there was a lot of people with POOL 1 TOLs and now it seems that its all POOL 2. Is there a rhyme or reason to the way this is done?

Batches. 1st was Vet with 10pt preference, then primarily Vets with 5 pt preference, then primarily CTI, then lastly Pool 2. HR stated they'll be done for this fiscal year in the next 10 days or so. The remaining TOLs could come from Pool 2 or a collection of everyone, who knows.

Damn that isn't making me feel great about my odds then.

thanks in advance

Hi everyone. Apologies if this is the wrong thread. New to the industry. I received my TOL on Friday. I was laid off from my job in October and I applied in August as I was expecting to be laid off so this was the first time I'd ever applied to this position. Anyway I'm an engineer but I don't have a background in anything related to the industry. I'd really like to wait for this position but I am unemployed and I can't necessarily wait for a year or a long period of time. I guess I wanted to get an idea of the position and just a general overview. Anything helps. What to do before or at the academy, how long it takes to get CIL, what to expect in your first years, etc. Also, I literally have zero experience in the industry, am I destined to fail? Thanks literally any advice helps.

If you do your research this site has all the information you need to know. Also, industry related or not, you can do anything you set your mind to. Your already an engineer, thats one amazing feat!

First off, definitely continue to live your life and find another job in the meantime. Although some people get lucky, I'd plan on a minimum 6 month wait to go through the background checks and get an academy class date, but it could take a year or more. Considering this was the first panel you applied to, you probably don't fully grasp how lucky you are. There are people who went to school for this and have applied to 7+ panels and still haven't found themselves in the position you're in. I hope when you say, "I can't necessarily wait for a year or a long period of time" you mean you can't wait without finding a filler job and not if I can't get started in a few months I won't pursue this at all.
In terms of experience, as long as you're the type of person who will buckle down, study, work hard, and take constructive criticism, you have a decent shot at being successful. If you're completely new to aviation in general, find your closest FAA airport (or center depending on your TOL) near where you live, contact them, schedule a tour and see what it's like. I fell in love with the job after I first toured and couldn't imagine doing anything else with my life now.
