Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Apologies if this has been answered before. I did search this thread, somewhat.

1.) Prior CPC applicant to this OTS bid. Do I have to go through AT basics at the Academy?
2.) Do all OTS applicants go through the tower track? If not, when do you know if you'll be going through RTF or En Route?
3.) Being an OTS bid, are the facilities offered at the end of the academy generally lower level facilities?

1. You have the option to skip basics
2. You will be given either an enroute or terminal TOL. This is always subject to changed based on the needs OF THE AGENCY, not you. You would attend the classes as necessary for that route.
3. All facilities offered to academy graduates are level seven and below... VERY rarely there is a level eight such as OKC. Approximately two weeks before your class concludes you will be given a tentative list for your class. Depending upon how many people pass your class, there will be that many facilities to select from (there may be multiple slots for one facility). Best picks first, worst but still passing gets what is left.

Thanks for the reply. Terminal TOLs can be for both RTF and Tower, correct? If you receive a terminal TOL, when will you know if you are going through the radar or tower track?

Yes they can be either but in the last five or so year the only RTF/tracon people were N90. If you get Terminal, 99.5% sure you'll be going to a tower or up-down

So where do the region and facility preferences that we answered on our application come into play? Does everyone that wants to be in the northeast get put into a class, and get offered mostly northeast facilities?

Absolutely no where. You are offered facilities off the priority placement list. Facilities with the highest need anywhere in the country will be on your list.

Might come off as a dumb question, but if you get a TOL for enroute that means a Center correct? If so the resources/facilities/enroute on this site does not show a center that is below a level 10, unless you count Guam. Any help would be great.

Correct. All centers are at least a 10. Except for Guam and San Juan

The level 4-7 restriction is only for terminal TOL holders. Centers are designed to take people with no experience and train to certification. That's in part why the training program at centers takes significantly longer than at towers. Low level towers and up-downs are not set up that way. They have limited staffing and minimal front office staff/training department.

Not sure whats going on guys, but i called PSI and they asked me for 3 dates of availability to test and was told I'll be contacted in return. Doubt its booked at full capacity. However, Im playing it safe.

I wouldn't be worried, I am sure they are just sending emails out in batches since it looks like they do not have any dates posted yet.
