Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

So after reading both of these I see nothing about Uclerative Colitis, I was diagnosed with this a year ago and apparently its a big deal to the Air Force cause I have to get a waiver to stay in. Does anyone know if the FAA cares about this at all and if it could stop me from clearing medical? I dont take any meds and it doesnt affect my life in any way besides being diagnosed with it.

The FAA doesn't deploy anyone.

So does that mean they dont care? I'm a intercept controller for the air force and they took away my flight status while they do a waiver, I'm total fine and have deployed 3 times with this condition where we couldnt get up for 3+ hours at a time and it never caused any problems for me. I get the reason the Air Force cares is for world wide deployable status and they have to pay for my medical care that i dont use. I'm basically asking cause I need to let my leadership know that I'm going to give up my AGR status and go traditional guard but dont want to jump the gun and get denied a medical clearance from the FAA too.

Just wait until you have a FOL or at least clear medical. Going AGR to DSG is a simple 1288 and some admin changes.

Yeah I was originally planning on waiting until I have a FOL but I know class dates can be pretty soon after that and I dont want to just screw over people here.

sooooo........doesn anyone have the actual answer to my orignal question?

No one here is gonna have a better answer than you've already received. Generally speaking, the military is more strict about medical issues than the FAA. It doesn't appear that it would be disqualifying, but it may get you Tier II'ed. It'll be up to the AME when you do your medical exam, so there's nothing you can do now to help.

Also, most class dates I've seen tend to be 4-6 weeks away when they're offered, which I wouldn't consider to be "quick". There's also the possiblity of you getting Tier II'ed or something else that would delay your process, so it's entirely possible you wouldn't get a class date until over a year from now. I wouldn't be making any life changes until you have your FOL and class date in hand.

I received my TOL on 12/21 and sent it in near around 4:30 central time. Since the government shut down the next day, I shouldn't be worried that I haven't received my CIL yet, right? No one's there to send me the information. Has anyone that sent their TOL in after the 21st heard back?

You're fine...just wait for the government to reopen.

Expect a CIL 4-6 months after the government repopens if the bid isn’t effected by the academy shutting down.

After the government reopens, you’ll be waiting around 3 months or so to get anything. Who knows what the timeline will be with the shutdown. Just sit tight. I can just imagine the HR nightmare of emails and voicemails waiting for them...

Government shutdown might be ending tomorrow, depending on how Trump's press conference goes. Supposedly it's to declare a state of an emergency to use funds towards the wall, if that happens, very likely the government will reopen by Tuesday. Otherwise, expect the government shut down to go on for at the bare minimum, another week, if not longer.

What worries me is that I applied before my 31st birthday. Got my TOL after my 31st birthday, which I know is fine. But it’s looking like no class date for me till after my 32nd birthday. Not sure if that matters.
