To those of you that are either waiting to hear back from HR for confirmation or for a TOL, don't expect to hear anything back until January 7th at the earliest. In regards to the government shut down, there are no votes scheduled for tomorrow and they do not work December 29-January 2nd. The first time they return to work is on January 3rd, where they're sworn in for a new congress and the earliest that they will be able to cast their votes and try to overcome this impasse, will be January 4th, which is a Friday. Assuming they make a deal or get enough republicans to vote with democrats
in order to overrule Trump, on their first day back, then HR will reopen that following Monday, January 7th. That's the best case scenario, my point is, don't expect to hear anything back before the second week of January. Of course that is assuming that they reach a deal their first day back.

Once you're at your facility you can groom and dress basically however you want. It might give you a bad rep as a trainee if you look like a bum but once you're certified nobody cares. I highly recommend getting a face tattoo of the FAA logo

I had a beard at the academy. Kept it somewhat respectable until I got to my facility. I've seen some people do "training beards" that they just grow until they check out. Not sure how common that is.

The FAA doesn’t care if you’re at the academy with a beard and unkept hair. Had a guy in the class behind me with a really bushy unkept beard and dreadlocks. Tattoos aren’t a big deal but the facial FAA/NATCA tattoo is mandatory when you check out.

Anyone here know how long they give you between academy grad and start date at first facility? I assume they give you time for finding a house and moving and all that Jazz? (And yea, I get the “you haven’t even started the academy yet, one step at a time punk” so let’s skip that)

My fiancé got leave days upon reaching his facility to handle things like finding a home. But he stayed in a exstended stay hotel until we closed on a house.

Are the national slot numbers the order they give them out at the academy, like they just keep going down the line and new spots are added to the bottom of the list? I can see they fill them with not just academy people but also previous exp and ERR spots but just wondering if that is the exactly order they are given out.

Near your classes evaluations, you’re given a list of possible choices. Based on how many people in your class pass, you get to pick from the remaining choices. Say you had a full class of 18 and 10 passed. The 10 would get to pick from slots 1-10 on the list, and 11-18 would fall to the next class.

The list generated by facility priority need. I’m not sure how often they update it.

So with the government now shutdown. I still have not recieved a TOL. I have been hearing conflicting information about more TOL's to be sent after Christmas but the Shutdown started before then. Will this shutdown delay the TOL process? My Application status still says reffered. Thanks for any help. And Happy New Year to you all.

Yeeaahh...word is they had legislation that was going to pass but apparently they didn't put one of the new cover sheets on it. You see they're putting the cover sheets on all legislation before it can be brought to the floor.

Hey everyone. I never received an email saying referred despite my usajobs application being referred. Should I be worried I'll miss a TOL or is this a common occurrence? I've thought about contacting HR but I'm sure they will be swamped when the shutdown ends.

Your USAJobs profile won't really matter past the point of it saying "Referred" or "Not Referred". I got a TOL for this bid, but never got an email saying anything about my status changing. Only thing you'd have to make sure is that an offer letter didnt go into your spam folder or something.
