Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

I hear everyone is HR goes to an undisclosed location. They put on some special robes, and applicants names are written on seperate pieces of paper, then placed in a large bowl. A frail old woman(only known as "The Harbinger") , eyes blinded and white with cataracts, she takes each name from the the bowl, and places the paper in her mouth. If she is pleased with your name, she smiles quietly and eats it, and you are NOT selected. If she grimaces, she spits it out and screams your name, Scribes stand near by write each name.... And that's how they do it.
Seems legit. My name better taste like rainbows and strawberry’s to them then come the next wave lol.

are you guys filling out the forms electronically or printing/handwriting/scanning?

also, do you just "reply" to the FAA's email to send your info back or do you create a whole new email?

Should’ve gotten your paper work in before the shutdown.

But I created a new email.

I’m printing/handwriting/scanning, not sure about everyone else. As far as getting it in before the shutdown, I’m with ya there... have to wait until tomorrow to scan and send it, but we should all be fine. As long as they see we sent it before the 5 days is up, which I’m hearing they might even give some breathing room on the 5 days anyway. That’s just hear-say though

Whats the deal with CTI grads that are under 35 but graduated before 2014? Didn't congress give that group an age extension? I applied for this bid and was caught off guard by the recommendation letter, the bid opened on a Friday and closed on a Sunday in the middle of summer so I never got the letter back before the close. I was in pool 2. I did get referred and no TOL yet.... or at all. Anyways I was bitter about the whole BQ bs they implemented, and dissolved the cti grad bids and never applied again until this bid. I turned 31 today so I think this road is done for me potentially. Anyone know anything about that?

I think that ended with the 16 or 17 bid

For all of you that are super sad you didnt get a tol. The FAA in just about every single bid I've seen sends them out in waves. Dont be surprised if another wave comes out in a month. This is what were telling you, the process is super random and it takes forever. Even in experienced bids its random. I got my TOL after 3 other waves of TOLs went out. Have patience, have faith and enjoy the holidays.

Anyone here know how long they give you between academy grad and start date at first facility? I assume they give you time for finding a house and moving and all that Jazz? (And yea, I get the “you haven’t even started the academy yet, one step at a time punk” so let’s skip that)

I have read before that you *can* be authorized up to 8 days paid COS leave. You have to talk to the ATM when you select your facility.

Every facility info page on this site lists "academy travel days", which seem to be based on the assumption that you'll drive straight to the facility from OKC and your stuff will magically appear at the house you magically acquire. You can get some amount (8 days I guess?) COS leave which you can take immediately or later (for househunting once you certify or whatever). I'm not sure how senority works if you take the leave immediately, someone who actually graduated might be able to shed more light.

If you fly to and from the Academy I believe you get one day to get to your facility. If you drive, the amount of time you are given is dependent upon how far it is from Oklahoma. As someone else mentioned those times are posted on each facility's forum page here.

You are authorized 8 days change of station leave, but it must be approved by the facility. Generally as a brand new person you are useless and it is approved. However if they are holding a training class or something for you there is always the chance that it may not be approved.

And before anyone asks, no the FAA does not pay for your moving expenses.

You get travel days depending on which facility and then you get change of station days. Your travel days can be anywhere from 1-4 days if your driving, and only 1 if you’re flying straight from okc.

You can decide to take your COS days immediately or later and you have them for either 2 or 3 years before they are lost. Obviously the whole moving thing is pretty stressful if you are going to somewhere you have never been and If you have a family vs if your going alone. I went straight to okc from the academy. So for example, our placement day was Tuesday. I got 2 days of travel to my facility so date to report for my first day was Friday. I was in a few week delay to start stage 2 since I was waiting for a fre more people so I worked for 2 full weeks after and then took 4 days of COS to (the Monday was a holiday). So technically you can 9 full free days S,S M-F, S, S. Then there’s still 4 more days to use for the future, within a certain time frame. They will never say no to you using your COS before you go the facility. If you start stage 2 training right away they might tell you no to using all of it at once. I know each facility is different but our seniority goes by the date you show up in the building. So there were 3 guys who were in the same class. The one who showed up before the other 2 did on the same day has seniority over them.
