Responsibilities

This is an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) position responsible for the safe, orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic through the nation's airspace. Additional information regarding these positions is located at: Aviation Careers.
ATCS's in the Terminal option control air traffic at airports and give pilots taxiing/takeoff instructions, air traffic clearances & advice based on their own observations and information from the National Weather Service, Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC), flight service stations, pilots, and other sources. They transfer control of aircraft to the ARTCC controller when the aircraft leaves assigned airspace and they receive control of aircraft coming into assigned airspace.
  • Applicants will only be considered for the geographic location(s) selected in this application. If you are selected for a position, you will be informed of the facility location you are being offered. Selectees will be offered a temporary appointment in the ATCS occupation at an FAA facility based on their geographical preference(s), qualifications and needs of the agency. Please find additional information in the time limited appointment section.
  • AT-2152 AG is the position level for selectees who are NOT former FAA 2152 Certified Professional Controllers (CPC); salary will be set in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, which states pay shall be set at the lowest developmental pay rate for the assigned facility. Position/facility offered will determine final salary.
  • Appointees will enter the appropriate phase of field training as determined by the assigned facility to prepare for full certification to the CPC level. You must learn the skills needed for operation at higher levels of responsibility and obtain the facility ratings required for full performance at assigned facilities within uniformly applicable time limits.
  • Failure to meet training requirements for or accept promotion to higher-grade ATCS positions may constitute grounds for reassignment, demotion or separation from employment.
  • You will receive on-the-job training and pay increases, as appropriate, upon successful completion of the progressive phases of controller training at your assigned facility. Part of the on-the-job training may require that you complete certain specific training courses at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK.

So this came out of nowhere I feel. I never heard anything about the RMC program making a return.
And interesting how they already have the facilities picked for those that are selected?

So if you’re at one of these places and you get one of these RMC guys how does it impact staffing for ncept since it’s “temporary”

I have to say I keep my ear pretty close to the ground on things like this as well, it was a complete surprise.

these boomers are taking jobs from people who have spent a gazillion dollars on CTI degrees. BS. Next they will say they get extra seniority. I hope they all wash out.

I cant believe on one hand people are about to be furloughed, others are backed up years in the pipeline, others owe 150k in college debt, and they are letting these boomer scab interlopers in to steal ATC jobs. Any of the facilities they're going to beware, they will all be argumentative para military acting know it alls the kind that give you grief and say shit like "if you arent 15 minutes early youre late" or try to lecture you about leadership.

I unfamiliar with the RMC bids. The posting specifically says its for servicemembers who are retiring. Would a servicemember who is separating from active duty (4 years) and on terminal leave be considered?

Are you retiring after 4 years? If so then yes, if not then no. You will have to wait for the next prior experience or off the street bid.

Your best bet would be to call HR and ask. I have not seen an RMC bid since like 2012 and therefore am not up to speed on the specifics.

Retiring would mean that people over the age of 38 would be considered for the job. I doubt this means they are hiring veterans that have served for 20+ years.

That's exactly what these are for. And they're 5 year temporary positions.

I think we both missed the RMC from last year.
