  • a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control facility; OR
  • a civilian or military air traffic control facility of the Department of Defense; OR
  • a tower operating under contract with the FAA under section 47124
APPLICANTS MUST ALSO BE WILLING TO WORK AT ANY FAA AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL FACILITY.
The FAA has Air Traffic Control Facilities in every state as well as Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and Guam. Air Traffic Control Specialists in the Terminal option control air traffic at airports and give pilots taxiing and takeoff instructions, air traffic clearances, and advice based on their own observations and information from the National Weather Service, Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCCs), flight service stations, pilots, and other sources. They transfer control of aircraft to the ARTCC controller when the aircraft leaves assigned airspace, and they receive control of aircraft coming into assigned airspace.
Air Traffic Control Specialists in the En Route (Center) option give aircraft instructions, air traffic clearances, and advice regarding flight conditions while en route between airports. They provide separation between aircraft flying within the Federal airways or operating into or out of airports.
This is an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) position responsible for the safe, orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic through the nation's airspace. Additional information regarding these positions is located at: Aviation Careers
  • Applicant geographic area preferences may be used in determining facility placement offers for candidates selected. Ultimately, the type and location of positions offered to each selectee will be based upon the needs of the FAA. If you are selected for a position, you will be informed of the facility location you are being offered. Selectees will be offered a permanent appointment in the ATCS occupation at an FAA facility based on their qualifications and the needs of the agency. Appointees will have their salary set in accordance with the ATCS Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Positions offered may be:
  • AT-2152 AG - this is the position level for selectees who are NOT former FAA 2152 Certified Professional Controllers (CPC); salary $39,663, plus applicable locality pay based on facility assignment
  • AT-2152 - xD/xF/xG - these are position levels for former FAA developmental controllers rehired within 1 year of separation; salary $48,599 to $110,920 plus applicable locality pay based on facility assignment
  • AT-2152 - DH/EH/FH/GH/HH/IH/JH/KH/LH - these are position levels for former FAA CPCs; salary $51,577 to $149,743 plus applicable locality pay based on facility assignment
  • Appointees will enter the appropriate phase of field training as determined by the assigned facility to prepare for full certification to the CPC level. They must learn the skills needed for operation at higher levels of responsibility.
  • Failure to meet training requirements for or accept promotion to higher grade ATCS positions may constitute grounds for reassignment, demotion or separation from employment
  • You will receive on-the-job training and pay increases, as appropriate, upon successful completion of the progressive phases of controller training at your assigned facility. Part of the on-the-job training may require that you complete certain specific training courses at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK

I applied to the May bid and just got my list. If I apply to this, then get a bad facility on the other bid and accept it, start working, can I still proceed with this bid and get a new facility? While already starting with the FAA on the previous bid?

You can decline the first offer and wait to see if you get picked up here.

I've been turned down by the May2019 prior experience bid due to not being "120" days out from the military. I'm currently a FWS (cpc) at NGP. My question is, when this current bid closes I'll be 131 days (Feb 2, 2020) out NOT including my 60 days of Terminal leave. If I show that I'll be within 120 including my terminal leave (60 days starting Dec 2nd 2019) will I be denied? My first application intially got referred. I've read both yes and no and i'm just wondering if i should take my chances and apply.

I’m pretty sure it’s a hard 120 days now regardless of terminal leave. But apply anyway...worst they can say is no right?

Well, I might have a spot here at my current facilitly as a DOD employee once I get out. It's not what I wanted but it'll pay the mortgage. I really just want to get into the FAA and work my way up as soon as possible. I'm trying to see if i can get a TOL prior to me having to accept that DOD job. If I can get the TOL I'll be basically hustling investments to pay the bills until I start getting paid. If not i'll be stuck at this facility for another year or two. I've already been here for 4 years and I'm not doing myself any real favors by staying here.

A dude in the may bid post was like 140 out and got a TOL. Terminal counts for 120 days. You will need a service letter signed by a commander.

Just make sure your service letter and resume show the same date.

Here is what i modeled mine after which was successful: نتيجة بحث Google عن الصور حول http://www.netpei.com/cdn/26/2016/756/air-force-statement-of-service-letter_93826.jpg

Get that letter, photo copy your CTO card, and submit them with your application. I also submitted my 3622 (air force ratings document).

I applied may 3rd, got TOL july 9th.

Edit: Here is the number for HR. Call them tommorrow and get a definitive answer.

GS11 step 1 + 3-5% ATC premium, Sunday pay, night diff and holiday pay (at some facilities) is usually double what you get as active duty....unless you’re an officer or something. You don’t have to stay DOD and length of time to accept the FAA job. Apply to both, take the DOD spot and if you get a TOL and clear all the hurdles of the hiring process and get a start date then slide on over. Don’t nuke it.

Some of the civilians at my base were bringing in over 90k (before taxes, according to W2s that i saw) as GS-11's with all the sunday, night dif, and holiday pay. They get bonuses too, and a pretty sweet schedule. They did cover 95% of the mids for us too. Great people, super generous and nice.

I would probably take a DoD slot somewhere i liked over FAA.

You are the man! My wife hates the city we currently live in and would literally prefer anywhere but here. I'd start at 11 step 3 i believe, but if i can gtfo I'm going to. I'll hunt down my admin advisor, he does all the statments of service for the CO. My current one didnt reflect my terminal leave so I'll have to get right on that!

No problem. I ended up selling back alall of my leave (32 days) for a solid chunk.

I would give HR a call just to verify, but im 99% sure terminal works. After you get a TOL, send in your DD214 whenever you get it, HR will need it at some point.

Just because I found info hard to find on the exact process, it went in this order for me:

Apply, referred (on USAJOBS), TOL, send back accepted TOL, EODS (tax paper work done online, super easy), CIL (fill out background check info online, do medical, drug test, and MMPI test, doctor signs off medical (can take a few weeks to 4 months for people in the southwest), facility list. Next will be placement, choose start date, FOL.

I would get a statement of service that said "release date of XX DEC 2019" that states your term leave start date. I just got mine signed and submitted for this bid (granted Ill be out at 115 as of closing w/o terminal leave).

Once you get your TOL there is sheet you will fill out and send back to the FAA that will ask for your terminal and Leave day. I am pretty sure that is what they look at because I got a TOL when I was more than 120 days out but when I accepted the TOL and returned the paperwork with when I was getting out that’s when they rescinded it.
Regardless, there is no such thing as a hard no or yes in this process lol I have a buddy that was over 120 days from the December bid that is just starting here soon so who knows

I called HR today and the lady wasn't sure about my question and went to go ask someone else. She wouldn't give me a definitive answer but told me to go ahead and apply. Sooo I'm off to the admin department to get my new statement of service with my "release date " on it.
I'm guessing it's a case by case basis on the 120 days being soft or hard.

Yeah they told me to go ahead and apply as well. I get out February 1st so basically if we get TOLs in December time frame which would be a quick turnaround we will be fine because we could submit a DD214 whenever they ask
